I totally agree...this episode was a snooze fest.....no replay value and even a first watch through it pretty much was boring.

not sure what to do with Lemmy the potential is there for a good guest...

Lemmy has always been like that in every interview I've seen him in. I don't fault him, it's just his demeanor and how he carries himself. I didn't really have an issiue with him because I knew what to expect before going into the episode. But I think the gang just totally  f u c k e d  themselves over by turning the episode over to the audience to ask him questions. When has this ever been successful? 100% of the time they are going to ask not only dumb questions, but ask the same questions that's been asked a million times before. I knew that first chick was going to ask "why do you have the mic stand this way"? Ugh. You know who Lemmy is, but you don't know why he sets it up that way?

Whatever.

Just really disappointed that Don, Jim and VH1 Classic continue to let Eddie act the way that he does on air.

yeah the audience question thing was a bad idea...you hit the nail on the head there.....I am surprised they didn't ask where he got the name Motorhead (which alludes to a speed freak) or any of the other lame brain questions that have been asked again and again.

oh well...new one tonight....can't even remember who's on it...might be Michael Schenker as the guest.....he's not going to be much of an interview I am afraid...although I could be wrong...he's not very outgoing without a guitar in his hands...as far as I've ever seen....he's more the type that will sit there and smile....he's not a dumb guy...I just think he's not super talkative....we'll get some basic facts on what he's up to right now...and that will be about it.

The only interviews I can recall with Michael was back in the late 80's, early 90's with Robin McAuley and Robin was doing all the talking with the occasional laugh or quip by Michael. I certainly have never seen him go solo in an interview. So, if he is in fact the lone guest, it may turn into a train wreck. I see it actually going down the same road as Uli Jon Roth, which was a bad interview for lots of reasons. First and foremost, I blame Eddie (duh) for asking way too many yes and no questions (as I remember it) and basically kissing his ass for the duration of the interview which basically steered Roth into a certain type of response. He may be a great interviewee elsewhere, but on that night it was painful to watch. I'm beating a dead horse here, but Eddie just is not a good interviewer at all. He just lucked out to become friends with a lot of Rock Stars and for some reason he equates that as being validation in that he knows what he is doing. He doesn't.

I say have Michael sit in on the panel with his guitar, have only Don and Jim ask him questions and then let Michael play a lick or a riff to answer said question. At any time during the show, when Eddie starts to whine, that's a cue for Michael to take his guitar and smash it over Eddie's head. Do it enough times throughout the show and even Eddie will learn not to do that anymore, just like Pavlov's dog.

P.S.

I know Eddie and the gang are reading this (since I left a link to this thread over at TMS) and it wouldn't faze me one bit that they talk  s h i t  about me on the air next season.

I think Eddie will kiss Michael's ass big time....and like you said, lead him with answers as he did UJR.

One thing I can say....is (and this is based on Eddie's OWN words)

I've actually been a Schenker / UFO fan for LONGER than him...based on what he said and when he got into them

he might know all the album names...but he's got a long way to go to really understand the band....he doesn't realize it though, that's the funny thing.

ignorance is bliss as they say/

and his UFO tattoo is lame.

Episode 6: Michael Schenker & Mike McCready

Special Guest Guitarist: Frank Hannon

This episode was  f u c k i n g  awesome! Even with Eddie's weekly whine-fest in full effect, he couldn't wreck this one. Kinda. More on that later. Let's get right into what did make this a kick ass episode. First off....Frank Hannon. He was  f u c k i n g  incredible. I think I may have to retract what I said earlier about a previous guitar player being the best this season. I think for me personally, Frank had the best "Set" of any player in the last couple of years, along with John 5. In this one, Frank's tone was SICK!!! On top of squeezing out an amazing sound, he was playing crunchy riffs and power cords so that everyone, myself included could feel the punch to the gut.

Onto Michael Schenker. Since I've never really seen a one on one interview with him, he surprised me big time in how articulate he was and he had plenty to say, so much so that he kinda hijacked the panel because he was on a roll and had plenty to dish out. His stories were fun and insightful. Moving on to Mike McCready. Ever since TMS started, I always wondered of anyone from Pearl Jam would show up. I honestly never thought anyone would given that stigma of Grunge killing off Metal in the mid 90's.

Well, Mike McCready stopped by and the adulation he has for Schenker is obvious and pretty damn cool to see. Eddie may say he is his "biggest fan", but in just the few minutes that McCready spoke of and to Schenker was more sincere than 10 episodes of Eddie going on and on about UFO........Sometimes I get the feeling that Eddie just says stuff on air so that people will just look at him. He gushes a lot about certain people and he never comes across as being sincere, at least that's how I see it. I'm not saying he's not a fan, just sayin' that telling people every 5 minutes means nothing when there is no sincerity behind it.

Which leads me to my new segment that I like to call: How Bad Was Eddie On Tonight's Episode Of That Metal Show? Well, it wouldn't be a TMS unless we got some Whine with that plate full of Cheese. My rating will reflect accordingly. The more he whines, the less stars he gets. If he can go a full hour without whining, he will receive a perfect rating. For this episode he gets.....

Eddie

I'll post my thoughts before I read yours...I saw you gave it 5 stars....

a little surprised to be honest.

as you know I am a big Michael Schenker fan and have been for about 28 years....the pedestal Eddie puts him on is really silly....maybe because he's (Schenker) is under rated in many ways...and will never be mentioned in the circles of Ritchie Blackmoore, Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, or even someone like Brian May....he's more known as maybe a Gary Moore level player...if you are really into guitar or the history of rock...sure you'll find Michael's impact on a lot of player.s...just like you will with Uli John Roth.

But I mean even as huge Michael Schenker a fan...I was uncomfortable with how Eddie treated Mike McCready (even placing him in the second seat for his interview segment)  who's band Pearl Jam (whom I am not a fan of) has done 3 times what Schenker has done...and has probably sold 10 times the amount of albums....he was a good sport and I thought was fun to listen to talk...he had more to share and Eddie neglected that fact...I really don't feel like Michael would have minded a few minutes NOT totally focused on him.  McCready's health problems were a surprise to me...and I hope he stays healthy...he's lucky because he has the funds at least to get the best care to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

so to focus so heavily on MS for the full hour seemed like overkill....and lets face it...it really was ALL about Eddie NOT Schenker.  I am 100% serious about that.  It was about Eddie being the BIGGEST fan.

I did like the episode and thought Michael looked great and talked about a lot of cool stuff...I didn't realize that he was younger than Rudolph  /  No internet when we were kids...so I never knew his age or relationship with Rudolph other than they were brothers and had crisscrossed in bands before......would have loved to see him play a little guitar....the guest guitarist was ok....he seems like maybe he's had some health problems or something...he's very heavy handed on the guitar and I felt like his in's and out for the ads weren't all that interesting....seemed like a cool guy so I am not going to really go off...it's maybe not his thing to just wing a short riff that  might be fun to listen to.

I could give two ****s about the list most times....and I think even stump the trunk is getting kind of old.

I will say they do help keep the show varied...and I agree with you...the deeper into episodes the show gets the more Don and Jim are shinning and Eddie is getting old.

I'd give it a 3...since you gave it a 5...I'll go 4....I love Mike but felt Eddie made it a little uncomfortable.

he could have celebrated the music more, than really just verbally gushing chewing up precious time during the segments.

I did love the guest guitarists tone...I will say that.

and I was pulling for him to play hotter and hotter licks....it was tasty but man John5 set the bar really ****ing high.

and YEAH...we both figured Eddie out

it's about him

God Bless you Mr Chiprocks....we both nailed this phoney!

As for Frank, I think the reason I thought he had a Set that I approved of is because it wasn't your typical "shred-fest" that most are intent on displaying on TMS. Sure, Frank wasn't ripping like you'd get from a dime-a-dozen at Guitar Center. That's boring if that's all you can do. Give me some Meat and Potatoes that packs a wallop. And yes, John 5 did set the bar extremely high and is still the standard by which all will be compared to. The thing about John is that his playing is so varied in that you never fell like he is repeating himself, while the majority of the other players that are on TMS are doing the same thing in each commercial break. Looking at you Phil Collen and George Lynch!!

I think Frank knew this and decided to take a different approach and give something that people (myself included) some toe tapping, head banging riffs and that's why to me he succeeded. I stand behind him 100%.

I forgot to mention that snub that you pointed out regarding the seating arrangement. You nailed it there and when it played out the first time I watched the episode I was like "You've got to be kidding me"?! I thought it was extremely insulting to McCready. Nothing against Michael here at all as he is just the guest and had nothing to do with it. I'd say the same thing if Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley were to ever make their way to TMS. My bone of contention is that TMS have set a certain precedence with how things are done on the show and to suddenly deviate from that is a slap in the face to whoever gets bumped. McCready may have been a good sport about it, but I am not, and it's another reason why I feel it's time for Eddie to be shown the door. He doesn't bring anything to TMS if you really think about it.

Funny that you mentioned Stump The Trunk because when I was watching it last night, the same thought kept popping into my head "Why is this segment so important to the show"? It's not. It's nothing more than trying to once again make it about him and the funny thing is, he fails at it about 85% of the time. Get rid of the segment and you cut down half the episode of his whining which is a good thing. It won't happen though. I'm referring to them cutting it and to his whining.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention in original review of the episode was to mention how  f u c k i n g  shameless Eddie was when McCready half jokingly said that if and when Pearl Jam is nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame that he would refuse induction until KISS is let in through it's doors. I think McCready was kind of making a lighthearted joke at the expense of Eddie. It was simply a way for McCready to say to him, "See, I am a fan of TMS and DO watch it and know what's being talked about on the show".

So what does Eddie decide to do instead of laughing about it? He decides to hold McCready to it and that he SHOULDN'T let the RARHOF get away with it and to get everyone else in the band on board with the idea. How  f u c k i n g  disrespectful is this idiot Trunk going to get? Look, the Hall may in fact be a joke, but who is Eddie to dictate what other nominees do regarding their own enshrinement? Eddie may have issues with the Hall, but has he ever thought about what it means to other people that are getting voted in? Maybe to McCready it is a BIG deal and would give his career a nice cherry on top. But immediately, Eddie was making it about HIM and what better way to do that than being the "man who brought down the RARHOF by convincing Pearl Jam not to accept".

His ego would be so out of control if he pulled that off because they would be running this story into the ground on CNN, MTV, VH1, etc....Look, I agree that the Hall is a joke and that KISS and other bands deserve to go in and should be in now, long before Pearl Jam. But unlike "Mr. Super Fan" here, I would NEVER ask another person to forego something that they may actually want to participate in. Even if McCready doesn't care about the induction into the Hall, don't assume that he does because it makes you look like an ass, "Mr. Super Fan".

Episode 7: The Cult & Doro Pesch

Special Guest Guitarist: Frank Hannon

Not sure what the deal is what the episode that was hosted online. What I saw was an episode that didn't have the typical opening with the TMS Top 5. I have no idea of this was cut out from the broadcast version on VH1 Classic or just the online version. Total run time for the episode was just over 33 minutes. Broadcast would be 45 minutes without the commercials.

Okay, with that out of the way, onto what I did see. I will give the boys props for getting an interesting panel together for this one with The Cult. Both Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy are both well-spoken and had plenty to say and were good sports about the TMS Vault segment when they showed classic Cult in all their blown-dry-feather-hair glory. Haha. I had forgotten how long their hair use to be. Crazy.

The other interesting guest to the mix was Doro Pesch, who I have not seen or heard from since the late 80's, early 90's. She looks really good for her age. It's like she has been kept on ice all these years. Hasn't aged at all. As for her interview, it wasn't spectacular. Not her fault as I think she was just overwhelmed being on the set. This is the most screen-time she has seen on American soil in over 25 years. So I give her a past for appearing to be a deer-in-headlights. Still great to see her though. Also stopping by was "DJ" Ashba. After that Axl Rose interview from last season, I was beginning to wonder if he was in fact mute. He's not.

The Throwdown: Which institution is more clueless? The Grammy's or the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame? Winner is....who cares!!!!!. They both suck, so who cares. Stupid Throwdown topic if you ask me. When they were coming up with this episodes throwdown, Eddie told everyone else in the greenroom that he wanted to just run his mouth and appear to know stuff and to make it the topic they settled on.

Not as much whining from Eddie and that's only because the TMS Top 5 was cut out. But listening to him talk about the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is fast becoming a drinking game. If I drank as much as he claims to know about the institution, I'd already be dead from liver poison. So, he gets....

Eddie

I didn't want to read yours before I posted...short on time, but I liked the episode...I thought the guitar playing in and out of the ads was AWESOME this week.....felt like a solid show....I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5...not a huge Cult fan...they are good and that female guest was cool...I like her KISS cover although it's sometimes hard to find on youtube.
