Episode: 7 - Mick Jones & Leslie West
Guest Guitarist: Lita FordThis episode took me off guard. It had nothing to do with the guest, but everything to do with when it was taped. Up till now, all the previous seasons are taped months in advance, 2-4 episodes a day are taped and then put on the shelf until
VH1 Classic feels it's time to start a new "season" of
TMS. So, when
Eddie opens the show, addressing the debacle that is the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and
KISS and pointing out
Ace Frehley calling his radio show, I did a double take and realized immediately this episode was in fact taped no longer than 4 weeks ago. Not sure if the entire season was pre-taped as before and that they started taping newer episodes to capitalize on the heat that is
RARHOF and
KISS. Whatever the case may be, I prefer that they stop with the pre-tape and continue with fresh episodes. One of the annoying things about previous seasons is that by the time they aired, they would be talking about stuff that was already long gone and outdated. At least this way, things will be as current as you can get for an episode that usually takes 4 weeks from booking, filming, editing to airing.
As for the guest, I liked that they mixed it up and brought on
Leslie and
Mick. Good change of pace. I just wished that
Mick had more to talk about. Maybe he did, but the guys were fixated on
Leslie. I guess giving
Eddie another guitar as a gift guarantees you more air time. As for
Lita, I'm glad they finally got a chick up on stage to perform. F*ck this 'Guys Club' mentality. Her playing was good, but she's not a fret burner, so it's not going to be like other Guest Guitarist from previous episodes. She's kind of like
Paul Stanley's "lead playing", it's the right amount to show people you can play, but not going overboard with technique. I actually think her leading playing is better than
Paul's. But
Paul has the better riffs and rhythm playing, which has nothing to do with the episode. It was great seeing
Marty Friedman. Loved his question directed to
Mick. Overall, solid episode.
