The Beatles (The Beatles 1962–1966 - aka The Red Album) 1973

This is NOT a review

Back when I was a kid and low on income, I had a choice of getting The Red Album or The Blue Album. Well, it's obvious which one I eventually settled on. I will definitely be picking up the just announced Re-masters of this as well as The Blue Album when they are released.

FYI, this is a Greatest Hits package for those that are unaware.

The Beatles (The Beatles 1967–1970 - aka The Blue Album) 1973

I've played The Blue Album more than any other Greatest Hits Package it seems. Even though there are some choice songs that absolutely belong on here, I still give it the rating it gets.

The Beatles (Anthology 1) 1995

Like everyone else, I bought Anthology 1 (as well as Anthology 2) for the first new Beatles songs since Let It Be. That's 25 years between releases! Yikes. For this one, the new song was Free As A Bird. A lot of people seem to have bad things to say about the new songs. Me, I love it and see nothing wrong with it. Free As A Bird is just a really cool song.

As for the rest of Antology 1, it's packed with tons outtakes, and some live stuff as well. It's also sprinkled with snippets of behind the scene conversations and interviews with the band in between the songs. These are for the completest or Die Hard Beatle fans.

The Beatles (Anthology 2) 1996

Anthology 2 was also released to coincide with the documentary of the same name. The big selling point for this collection was the 2nd new Beatles song: Real Love. This song seems to get even more hate directed it's way than that of Free As A Bird. Personally I like it and find myself singing it once it gets into my head.

Anthology 2 is exactly the same as Anthology 1 with outtakes and live performances. This set for die hard Beatle fans.

The Beatles (Anthology 3) 1996

This is NOT a review

I never bothered to pick this up because the 3rd new Beatles song never happened due to poor quality regarding the tapes they were going to use. So they ended up doing an instrumental song instead, which I didn't think at the time was worth it.

Eventually I'll get around to picking up Anthology 3. I did hear that they are doing re-masters for all 3 of the Anthology sets. It remains to be seen if it actually pans out as fact...or fiction.

I skipped the remastered Box Set, although if I were to come across a used copy and it was cheap enough I'd grab it.

Anyone that hates Real Love is a  f u c k i n g  idiot.

I stopped by Cow Music yesterday afternoon and in the 'New Arrivals' section that had a bunch of the The Beatles: Remastered Vinyls. It feels great holding new stuff in my hands, one that is adorned with The Beatles logo on it. Wasn't sure if the price was a good deal or not. Went to Amazon to see what the same album cost: Cow = 21 bucks, Amazon = 19.99. Really no difference in price across the board. But with amazon I'd have to pay shipping on top of that and wait a week for it to come to my door. I guess Cow is the one I'll go with. Gonna go with Abbey Road. At least I will know what I'm getting and not have to worry about damage to the vinyl.

I remembering discussions elsewhere that they did the Mono's. But don't quote me on that.
