Actually in a long play situation (2+ hours) I've never heard a repeat on Pandora.

Was it a slightly different version perhaps?

I took my mom to the Bryan Adams "Bare Bones" concert at the historic Ryman auditorium the other night and it was surprisingly good, thoughw e both noticed pretty quickly that EVERY single song was a love song.  But the performance was great, it was just him, his acoustic guitar (and sometimes  a harmonica on one of those neck-brace things) and every now and then a guy joined in on the piano.  I was surprised I liked it as much as I did, and it'd the first concert I remember going to in ages, and at the Ryman you're SO close no matter where you are (and we were pretty close).  It was quite an experience, I'm going to have to find some of those songs.

I'm slowly working my way through his back catalog. You can find it here.

A week ago I was trying to get Mary Elizabeth Winstead's voice in my head for one of my projects.  NOW I can't get this song out of my head.  Now I'm quite interested in hearing the rest of the album when it comes out.

Random Access Memory - Daft Punk

Another experiment in music. I’m always on the lookout for new music. Something that will excite me. Make me stop and listen.

I had been noticing the media blitz of the Random Access Memory in the music sites and advertising. The only thing I know about this group, they were mentioned in another thread. Other than that… nada. The cover intrigued me. The name intrigues me. So let’s give it a listen, because apparently they are a big deal.

I think I was expecting a lot of synth type music. I start it up and am rather surprised to the contemporary jazz structure.

Then it crashes into a wall. The lyrics are autotuned. Big time. I thought that might be just the beginning, but I have to slog through the whole thing to find out entire song is autotuned.

Next…. Same thing. The song starts off compelling enough to get into, but then Autotune singing. In my book, that is a deal breaker.

WTF

A few songs in, less autotune, to no autotune… but the singer is OK at best. Nothing to write home about. Very pop-ish sounding tracks.

The last few go back and fourth between some autotune and the OK voice of the singer. No song actually sticks out…. Except that last one that turns into a torturous wall of irritating synth sounds.

What I find about this release is, most of the songs started out with some great potential, but then shifts and it completely changes the product… none of which I ever want to hear again.

I tried... based on nothing, but ultimately this was a total miss.

Foreigner - Acoustique

I had heard about this release in a very 'round about way. One of my band members is a big fan of Foreigner. I use to be, but like a lot of other 70's & 80's bands, I just got tired of them. I heard them so much.

So I ran across this video, which has a very cool different beginning for Urgent.

I liked it so much I wanted to see the rest of the concert and it's attached to this 2CD/DVD release

Listening to the Acoustic version of hits is rather jarring actually. You can see pretty much the rawness here off their website

Anyway, they took themselves and stripped the songs down to the core. Like I said, I was jarred at first but after listening to it all, I am very impressed with the results.

The 2nd CD is re-made classic hits with their new singer Kelly Hansen. They mixed it slightly different, which is cool, but it still sounds awesome.

Just saw this, equally blown away by the video and the music (which I'm about to throw onto my iPod)

Sebastian Ingrosso, Tommy Trash, John Martin - Reload

Video was cool. The song had some moments I liked. Now I need to check out the Wino's

Bowie – Best of Bowie

Because I was thinking of adding Suffregate City to our song list, I wanted to hear more. Haven’t listened to Bowie for a very long time. It all sounded good.

Beach Boys - 5oth anniversary Tour Live

I have and always will be a Beach Boys fan. I’ve seen them numerous times and distinctly remember introducing them to my daughter and taking my brother to a concert. This is a live collection that is superbly recorded. The harmonies are dead on. In fact I like some of these recordings more than the studio because of the ‘full’ sound. Especially the bass. They dug deep too. Not every song was a hit here. They introduced a new song too. It was OK. The whole set is excellent, but I’m truly interested in about 1/2 of it. If you like the Beach Boys, I highly recommend picking this new release up.

New Kids on the Block – 10

From a surprise recommendation (Chip) of the single Remix, from  NKOB 10, I decided I should give the whole thing a listen. I might be surprised some more. Sadly I was not. Remix is on the fence with being pop-ish, but yet it has this very infectious groove with some ‘manly’ vocals. The rest of the album falls on the side of the fence of pure boy band pop. I’ll just take Remix and move on.

Supertramp – Retrospectacle

Supertramp is one of my all time favorite bands. Their sound is so unique. I thought Retrospectacle might offer some gem I’ve not heard before. Even if it’s one song. Well Retrospectable does offer a song or two I have not heard before, but to me, they are not gems. They are very early recordings of the band before they became radio friendly. Production is fine, it’s just the song writing that was still in it’s infancy. Did not care for them at all. Still, 90% of this set is solid and a joy to listen too.

Bob Schneider - Lovely Creatures The Bringdown

On one of my Pandora stations, this song, The Bringdown, came on and caught my attention. It’s somewhat unique… somewhat catchy. So I’m thinking I’ve discovered yet another unknown gem. I got a chance to listen to Lovely Creatures and Perfect Day. I was unimpressed. It seems The Breakdown is kind of unique compared to a bulk of his music which IMO, is mediocre.

Nice run of albums there Mac. I'm not surprised that the new album from NKOTB didn't live up to Remix. Hey, at least we got that song out of them.
