Random Access Memory - Daft Punk Another experiment in music. I’m always on the lookout for new music. Something that will excite me. Make me stop and listen.
I had been noticing the media blitz of the Random Access Memory in the music sites and advertising. The only thing I know about this group, they were
mentioned in another thread. Other than that… nada. The cover intrigued me. The name intrigues me. So let’s give it a listen, because apparently they are a big deal.
I think I was expecting a lot of synth type music. I start it up and am rather surprised to the contemporary jazz structure.
Then it crashes into a wall. The lyrics are autotuned. Big time. I thought that might be just the beginning, but I have to slog through the whole thing to find out entire song is autotuned.
Next…. Same thing. The song starts off compelling enough to get into, but then Autotune singing. In my book, that is a deal breaker.
WTF
A few songs in, less autotune, to no autotune… but the singer is OK at best. Nothing to write home about. Very pop-ish sounding tracks.
The last few go back and fourth between some autotune and the OK voice of the singer. No song actually sticks out…. Except that last one that turns into a torturous wall of irritating synth sounds.
What I find about this release is, most of the songs started out with some great potential, but then shifts and it completely changes the product… none of which I ever want to hear again.
I tried... based on nothing, but ultimately this was a total miss.
