Unplugged 1991/2001: The Complete SessionsLet me state, I’m not a fan of R.E.M., meaning I can take ‘em or leave ‘em. I won’t turn them off if they come on the radio. R.E.M. have a few songs I hate (Stand, Orange Crush, Shiny Happy People) and they have a few that I absolutely love (Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts).
That being said, I thought I’d give Unplugged a listen too. I think what immediately hit me was how most of R.E.M.’s songs sound exactly the same. Maybe it was due to the acoustic rendition of their catalog, breaking it down to the core writing. I just blew through this 2 CD set because the next song sounded like the previous.
Even Losing My Religion disappointed me. I guess it just highlights how much production and depth songs have. I typically love Unplugged, but looking back, I guess I like the more drastic versions, especially from hair bands.
Not gonna even rate it. Can’t judge it fairly.
