24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault - Stevie Nicks

Some stellar songs like Starshine, The Dealer and title track, but the rest are either just OK, and some just ill-conceived. We are talking about a major voice here, so the bad songs are way better than a lot of songs... It's just not grabbing me.

X Ambassadors - Renegades

I heard this song on a recent Jeep commercial. two things, the commercial was actually endorsing the band and intertwined them into the commercial and 2nd, Renegades is an awesome song. Fits in nicely to a lot of other similar genre sounding songs of late. The library doesn't have any other their stuff, so I went to youtube to check out more. Some good stuff. Gotta keep an eye on them.

Waiting on You - Vallejo

Talking with my co-worker we were discussing music and bands we like, but people don't know about. He told me about his love for this Austin band - Vallejo. I checked out "Waiting..." and was impressed. Any group that has Sanatana leanings, you can call me intrigued. Enough for me to check out all their albums.

In a recent episode of Orange is the New Black, I heard Coming Down from The Dum Dum Girls. Never heard it before. Definitely caught my ears.

Sia - 1000 Forms of Fear 5 Stars

I forgot to write about this one. This was about 6 weeks ago. After getting hooked on the first 3 singles off the album, I decided to check out the album from my Library and it f*cking kicks ass! Love the album from start to finish. I listened to it non-stop for 3 weeks before I had to return it. There are at least another 3-4 songs that are music video-worthy. I've been looking on eBay since then, waiting to find that great deal. Highly recommend this to check out if you have not done so yet.

Sia... Sia... Sia?

Where have I heard that? Oh yea... I just ordered an album with her on it, that I've been wanting for years. Not because of her only... It's a various artists compilation of chill out and Trip Hop music.

American Rag 1 & 2. I've known about these albums for a long time and they were always incredibly rare and crazy expensive. I don't have a clue why. I've been checking over the years to see what is available. I happened to glance this week one evening and there they were... Good prices. Hope to be getting them soon.

I remember when I ordered them, Amazon through up suggestions for Sia.

I can't tell you how many times I restarted this one while on my walk today... I think I listened to it for half an hour.  And I totally forgot about the Breakfast Club-inspired music video.

Disturbed's cover of "The Sound Of Silence."

Which finally led me to look up a mariachi version b/c of Arrested Development, this is what I found.

Kinda wishing now for a full length version with lyrics.

Taylor Swift (1989) 2014

Just like everyone else on the planet, we all know who Taylor Swift is in spite of never listening to single song of hers. Well, personally I had never bothered to listen to anything she did, especially when she was the biggest Country Star. I'm not a fan of the music, so naturally I never had any desire to listen to her stuff . Well, this all changed for me once a couple of her songs (Shake It Off and Bad Blood) dropped as singles. I knew that 1989 was suppose to be heavily influenced from the 80's, making this a true Pop album, far removed from Country. Naturally I was curious to hear what the rest of the album would be. I love the two songs I mentioned, but I was highly skeptical an entire album would deliver. Very happy to say I was wrong. 1989 is a great album. It really exceeded my expectations and yes, it's definitely a Pop album and draws heavily from the best of the 80's. This just might be my new Party Album for the future. She sounds great, but I was more enamored with how the songs were crafted and arranged and how the songs worked in relations with each other throughout the entire album. It was fun to be able to pick up influences from 80's stuff.

A little fun fact about my Taylor Swift night tonight. I put my request for 1989 with my Library over 3 months ago. It arrived today and got to dive into the album tonight. In a twist of fate, Taylor was performing at Petco Park tonight. Totally forgot that she was even in town tonight. So, it was kind of an odd (or preordained) that the album would arrive 3 months to the day that she would be in town. Anyway, if you are looking for an allbum full of catchy tunes that actually sound great and unique from the tired old crap that passes for songs today, definitely give this one a Rent. Personally I will be looking for a Used Copy to Buy on eBay.

Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones, Roger Taylor, and Milton Keynes form a "Supersupergroup" and perform "Under Pressure."  Enjoy.

Marvin Gaye - Charlie Puth ft. Meagan Trainor

So I was looking at billboards top 20 songs, which I rarely do, because I rarely listen to broadcast radio, and I wanted to find something for the band, I came across the Marvin Gaye title. Checked it out and immediately liked it.

I find it has a nice groove, very danceable, but making it a song that sound like it was written in the 70's, but musically sound contemporary.

Check it out.

Maybe you guys know about Rival Sons already? I just found out about them through a drummer forum, talking about a certain drum technique.

Man, I'm loving this...

Stereophonics Best of... Decade in the Sun

I've heard the name, but up until a few weeks ago, didn't have a clue to their sound. A buddy/co-worker turned me onto a hit of theirs. Handbags and Gladrags. This is an old Rod Stewart song, he was not aware of.
They nail this song with just a tad more orchestration. It's very nice. So I picked up the greatest hits from the library and save for 2 songs that are OK, I love each and every song. They range from ballad to rockin. The songs remind me a lot of the songs from my favorite movie Rudderless.

Now, I'm a quest to check out their individual albums and see what I'm missing.

Keep the Village Alive - Stereophonics

Just digging this group. Like the greatest hits, I loved half the album. The other half was OK. Still pulled some killer tracks off this one.

Keep 'em coming
