So a small review of Red Hot Chili Peppers was on Sunday Morning this past sunday and it sparked my interest. I'm blown away how long they have been around and how old these guys are. So I thought I'd give them a listen. Besides the one or two songs that have been played I know nothing.

Well, the library had 5 of their releases including the greatest hits.

Oh my, I did not think I could dismiss them so fast. Their style is hard to pinpoint, but there was nothing there remotely interesting me. I don't think Anthony Kiedis voice is anything to right home about, in fact, I think it's pretty bad. Sorry, I gave it shot, but dayum, RHCP are not for me.

The Peppers are definitely an acquired taste. It's a cross between funk and alt rock with a whole lot of other ingredients mixed in. If you were to just go with one album, it would have to be Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Mother's Milk. Okay, that's two. But since you have already given them a listen and found it's not to your liking, you could definitely get off on this

Blue Man Group - How To Be A Megastar

Watching Blue Man Group should be on everyone's bucket list. I think they are very entertaining. Listening to the CD is whole other issue. It's generic Rock with an emphasis on percussion. They even admit that they are striving for the primal emotion. So I don't think people are going to just listen to this CD and get much out of it, but experience the whole show with audio, vision, and feeling.

BTO - Anthology

I've loved BTO from the day they began. For the most part it's simple 3 chord rock with gutsy vocals. A far cry from the Guess Who sound. This double CD pretty much covers any good stuff they have... which is a lot. Some songs surprisingly teeter on lounge music. But if you listen closer and closer, you will start to notice the excellent guitar work. These guys knew how to bend the strings. Some great solo work throughout.

Kill Bill Vol 1 (Soundtrack)

There are some pure jems on this disc and not good. But hey, they worked for the movie(s). I can't believe how crystal clear these are considering some of them are quite old.

It starts off with just a now iconic classic track Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) - Nancy Sinatra

and then I absolutely love this extended version of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - Santa Esmeralda

I'm waiting for Vol 2  :)

Kill Bill Theme Song

I use to love this one for like...ever. But the song began to sour on me when every TV show out there started using it in their slow-walk montage scenes. They took a great song and then they beat it into the ground. I lost count of how many times I have seen this song pillage in some way, shape or form.

:::sigh:::

The Script - Science & Faith

Up to a month ago, I had never heard of these guys. I am pleasantly surprised to really enjoy this whole album. It's pop music at it's best. Kind of a mash of Jason Mraz and Maroon 5. I especially like For The First Time and the hit Nothing.

While they've got a formula for good music, I can see it sounding the same. Hope they push their creativity.

Pulp Fiction soundtrack - various artist

The music works well in the movie, but it has that scattered feeling here on this disk. The only one I really like is Chuck Berry's  - You Never Can Tell

oh and I forgot, I like this song too for some reason

Maria Mckee - If Love Is a Red Dress

She can hit those high notes... nice

Kill Bill Vol 2 Soundtrack - Various Artist

Not as strong as Vol 1, but there are a couple of keepers here. Most notably Goodnight Moon by Shivaree. The style reminds me a bit of Amy Winehouse. Just a good moody piece.

I like L'Arena by Ennio Morricone and Malaguena Salerosa by Chingon (great Spanish guitar)

Urge Overkill - Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon

How can Chuck Berry be the only song you like from the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack? I bought it specifically for Urge Overkill. Also, I'm detecting a pattern here. Mac is on a Tarantino binge.

Actually I do like the Urge Overkill song. That was one of those songs I had to listen to over several times. I just really like the Berry song strongly.

Yea, I am on a Tarantino binge lately. I do recognize his love for music and it's different. I like finding new stuff.

Sara Bareilles - Kaleidoscope Heart

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this album. Sara has a great voice and great range. She shows that in a couple of songs, but still she sounds like a lot of other artists.

I do like the retro sounding swing hit Gonna Get Over You. It reminds me a lot of a little know artist Michelle Shocked.

Here's the goofy video. Goofy in a good way. The very end made me smile.
