Arturo "Thunder" Gatti Vs. "Irish" Micky Ward I

Having just watched The Fighter, I wanted to revisit some of Micky Ward's greatest fights and what better than to go back to THE GREATEST FIGHT of ALL TIME! This isn't hyperbole here that I'm saying. When I say this is the Greatest, I mean it is the best fight I have ever seen and I have seen thousands of fights so I know what I am talking about. This is the most amazing, balls to the walls boxing, slug fest you will ever witness. Warriors!!

I don't want to say check out this round or that round because if you have never seen this fight or even know who wins, to tell you anything about the fight would ruin it for you. They say there are 1001 things to do before you die. This is THE fight that you owe it to yourself to watch. Simply put, it's a live action version of a Video Game Fight. Unreal. UNREAL!!!!!

Watching it again from the start. I'm so pumped after watching this that I need another hit. Pun intended.

Micky Ward vs Arturo Gatti II

Jim Lampley said it best after the fight...."a worthy sequel". And that's just what we got here. Although the fight didn't reach the epic proportions of the first fight, there were still some unbelievable moments throughout the Rematch where the fight could have easily gone the other way. These two cats are the definition of what a warrior is. The right fighter won this fight for sure.

Arturo Gatti Vs. Micky Ward III

Unbelievable. I've never seen two fighters throw that many punches and land as many over 3 fights totalling 30 rounds. It's unheard of. The third and final fight in their Trilogy did not disappoint. Just.....WOW!! This didn't equal the first fight, but it was definitely a step up from the last one for sure.

I use to really enjoy boxing. One of my personal greatest conundrums. I can't stand violence and the idea of watching two humans go at each other with the intent of inflicting as much pain as possible and hopefully a knockout, is rather hard for me to reconcile.

But I did get into the big fights. The good fights. I couldn't stand the heavy weights where all they did was throw a punch or two.

After the fall with Tyson, I've viewed Boxing so differently today. I was never hip with the secretive judging aspect of the sport. Making the sport suspect just takes the fun out of it. I have not watched boxing in years. Most likely what I've mentioned but more so, I don't know anybody around me that gets into it either.

Boxing is dead and has been since Holyfield Vs. Tyson II. Ever since that ear biting debacle, there really hasn't been a Heavyweight fight of merit. By the time Tyson Vs. Lewis rolled around, nobody cared anymore. I did try to get into Vitali & Wladimir Klitschko as possible contenders that could rejuvenate the division. But with the amount of  s h i t t y  fights they were setting up (i.e. handpicked fights that were guaranteed winners), I bailed on them and Boxing once and for all.

I moved onto MMA / UFC and for awhile it was refreshing. It was different. And then....I bailed on that too. I think because there is too much turnover with the "Championship" belt that there is no history and will never be any history. The belt changes from fight to fight so they can't really groom someone to be the "face" of the sport like a Tyson, Holyfield or Ali were. What does it say about the sport when Tito Ortez is the face of MMA and he has a pretty weak overall record and hasn't done  s h i t  in years? I may watch an MMA fight here and there, although its been probably a year or more since I last watched one, I will never feel about MMA the way I did and still do about Boxing.

That brings me to this thread. The reason why I started this thread is that I recently gotten back into Boxing. Not in it's current state, but a nostalgic remembrance of some of the greatest fights I've ever witness. And since there are believe it or not a handful of fights I haven't seen and have forgotten the outcome of, I will have a nice bag of fights to revisit.

I agree....boxing was great and became a joke with wins that clearly were stacked cards and it just couldn't trick real fans anymore

sadly for me UFC seems to have transformed into what I didn't like about boxing...it became about promoting decent fighters...as legends and honestly (for me) became totally disappointing.
I still think there are great fighters around and in the sport...but it's clear that we are presented almost a false reality when it comes to who's really the best.

tonight's fight might be interesting.  I really don't know much about either guy and there's SO much hyperbole around the entire event...it almost makes me want to completely avoid it just
based on all the hype.  The payday these guys are getting is ridiculous and kind of disgusting as well....

I don't know...I wish I could see a silver lining...

you going to check it out Chiprock?

Yeah, I'm definitely going to be watching Mayweather vs McGregor tonight no doubt, even if I know that this is going to be a bore of a fight. Yup, I said 'bore'. This is how it's going to go.....Mayweather is going to run around for 10 Rounds...McGregor is going to be frustrated the whole fight because he can't get to him. Actually, the fight will end somewhere in the 4-5th round. Mayweather is conditioned to go 10 Rounds. What's McGregor's average in UFC? 2 rounds? UFC...even in a Championship Fight only goes 5 Rounds. So he is clearly not conditioned to take the fight very far. Honestly, I think he will be out of gas by the end of Round 1, start to waltze around in Round 2 and 3 to refuel his tank, get frustrated in Round 4 when Mayweather is still refusing to engage and waste what little gas he has and then BOOM...Mayweather drops him for the win.

With that said, what makes this fight intriguing is that anything can happen. For all of McGregor's limited boxing skills...he has a punchers chance. There is a chance, however small it is, that Mayweather will engage to take him out for all the sh*t that McGregor talked during the media hype and that right there may have been McGregor's best skill for the fight. Get under Mayweather's skin with all the name calling and smack talk just to push him into a fight and take him out of his 20 year run fest. Get to a man's ego and you got a shot and pulling off an upset because he may feel like he's not a man for letting McGregor get away with running his mouth for the past few months.

we'll blow up pennycan like the sherdog forums tonight then!!

so is this considered a UFC event or is the boxing on all the undercards?  I wasn't sure...a full boxing night would be
soooooooooo boring.

bummer it's a full night of boxing.

I just don't care about it anymore.  I have some older UFC fights saved on our DVR I've never seen.  I might watch those leading up to the actual Mayweather Connor fight then.

I am not sure I could stand 2 hours of pre-boxing.

I will check out the main event though...so I'll be posting then!!
