With
San Diego hosting the
All-Star game this year (next week, Tuesday), our
Padres Sport Channel has a bunch of
All-Star related programming leading into the event and they kicked it off tonight with
19 Memories: A Tribute To Tony Gwynn for obvious reasons. You can't talk about
San Diego without
Tony Gwynn factoring into the conversation. They had been hyping this Tribute for about a month and I knew it was going to be something special and they were right. It was everything they said it was and more. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Other cities can claim their World Championships, but
San Diego gets to say
Tony was ours and that's something I wouldn't trade for anything. The Tribute was a Round-table discussion with
Chris Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Mark Grant, Mark Sweeney, Greg Vaughn, Dave Stewart. John Boggs and
Merv Rettenmund carrying the bulk of the discussion. But there was also input from the likes of
Tony Gwynn Jr as well as other players that sat down to tell their
T. Gwynn stories. Overall, this was a great tribute. I just wish it was longer than 1 hour. RIP
Mr. Padre.
