A Salute To Tony Gwynn

We lost a true legend today. Beyond being one of the greatest hitters of all time, he was an awesome human being. He is legendary for being one of the most approachable people you would ever meet. I have a handful of personal stories of TG, but one of the best was one time I ran into him down at the beach (he was coming out of Hennesey's Bar and Grill) and as always, I was wearing my Padres hat, which had already be signed by him. I handed the hat to him and he looked at it and said "I already signed it. Want me to sign it again since it's fading?". This was when he was still a huge player and his time was precious. Who does that? Only someone that actually cares about his fans. I can't say the same for 95% of all other celebs out there.

During my baseball career from Little League to College, I worshiped the man. I based my swing on his swing and followed his hitting philosophy to a 'T'. Because of him, he made me a better player. You will be missed Mr. Padre. RIP, we all love you.

Keith Remembers Tony Gwynn

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PXSVbLhyMY

I watched a lot of Tony Gwynn news bits last night and THIS was by far the best. It was both touching and funny in how Keith was able to get across EXACTLY what Tony was like. Yesterday was a very sad day for everyone. I'm still stunned that he is gone. He was way too young to leave.

I love that the Late Show with David Letterman Channel re-posted this to honor Tony. It's just a good as the first time around.

I'm not a fan of First Take. But this was a good segment.

1984 San Diego Padres

A retrospective that I watched last night. It was fun to see stuff I haven't seen since 1984. Still the BEST year ever for the Padres, for the city....for me!

Padres, Tony Gwynn the two just go together. Its too bad he did not have more time after baseball.

RIP Tony. True Greatness.

I've been thinking a lot (and watching videos of him on YouTube) the last couple of days and the thing that I just can't come to grips with is that he was ONLY 54 years old. This just isn't right. He was suppose to grow old and tell baseball stories into his twilight years.

54 is young. I agree we could have used 20 years of him telling the stories, coaching, broadcasting ect.

I was a Padre fan for a few years lucky enough to see a few games.

Tony Gwynn Tribute/Memorial tonight at Petco Park. For those that can't make it to the Park, it will air live on Channel 10, starting at 7pm.

The Tribute just ended and it was very emotional for everyone involved. The love in the air for Tony was electric. So many people crying throughout the stadium, myself included. It couldn't be helped, realizing what a great person we lost. It wasn't entirely somber. There were plenty of laughs to be had with great stories, some incredibly funny that had Alicia Gwynn (his wife), Chris (his brother) and Anisha (his daughter) some much needed respite for what was and is clearly a very difficult time for them right now. I'm glad that Ted Leitner was chosen to MC the event because he always has great stories to tell and they truly were good. Loved the production of the program and the way they closed out the memorial was breathtaking and hair raising with Petco Park going dark with the only illumination coming from the Spotlight on Tony's #19, along with bic lighters all around the Park. Amazing Grace indeed.
