Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee w/ Jerry Seinfeld
« on: July 05, 2013, 06:52:47 pm »
I've known about this series for a while (it's something of an unintentional adaptation of Robert Llewellyn's "Carpool") but I showed my mom the Michael Richards episode, and she commented on wanting to see the others, so on my own I decided to watch some more.

The show has it's own website, a Youtube channel, and if you've got the IPTV option, it's on Crackle.

I suggest starting with the Michael Richards episode (enclosed below), but the newest one has Don Rickles.  There's a nice mellowness to the show (that Carpool had in spades) so if you can watch it on TV you can kill a couple hours easy.

Yep. You need to get Plex if you want it though. The quality of the channel is pretty sick to when comparing it to say YouTube which doesn't appeal to me as much because the quality is meh.

I still haven't figured out Plex.  I'm not big on Crackle's interface (or the bug on the video, you know how I feel about bugs), they only have a couple episodes of a series, the quality isn't that hot (sub-DVD, since they probably still wanna push those DVD sales), and sometimes after a commercial break the episode won't restart.  Thankfully CiCGC doesn't have breaks.

Whenever I get a few minutes to spare, but not enough for a regular TV series, I like to pop on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. I'm kind of just picking random episodes and decided that I would go backwards in the last few episodes I've watched. Checked out Chris Rock and Seth Myers a few days ago and both were great. Just watched Don Rickles episode just now and he never fails to make me laugh. I love listening to him talk, be it on Coffee or talk shows, he is always great.

I think I will start from the beginning and give proper episode reviews. Hey, it may not be necessary, but it's what I do to kill time. Sue me!

I feel like episode reviews are a waste of time since these aren't really pieces of art, they're moments, they're discussions.  What's to be gained from taking them apart?  I suppose you COULD distill the key information, but I feel like without context, you'd be missing something.

If you want more content, I suggest the British version, Carpool.  They're longer and you might not recognize every one, but it's a good mellow watch (I quite like the one with Patrick Stewart).

Larry Eats a Pancake

Starting with Season 1, episode 1 again with Larry David. I always get a kick out of anything he is in. Even his interviewees are funny in spite of it being 'about nothing'. His Cigar/Cigarette analogy is spot-on if you think about it. I've watched this particular episode a few times since it originally aired. Watching him and Jerry talking, it's kind of amazing they ever got any work done on Seinfeld. I can imagine them talking for hours and hours....about nothing and having a blast do just that.

Mad Man In A Death Machine

I wonder what the typical shooting length is for each given episode. Barring natural disasters and traffic jams that it wouldn't go over a days shoot. So, how to explain why Ricky Gervais episode is so damn short? Even their 'coffee' diner scene was relatively short by comparison. It is funny seeing Ricky terrified by Jerry's over enthusiastic driving.

A Monkey and a Lava Lamp

I'm not really all that familiar with Brian Regan as a comedian or an actor. Never seen him on anything that I can recall. Maybe I have, I just don't recognize the dude. With that said, he does seem like a funny guy and a fun person to joke around with. I liked the episode. But my two favorite moments had nothing to do with him. The first was when Jerry couldn't get his car to start. The second was when the old lady (who probably doesn't even know who Jerry is) walks by his booth and just blurts out to him "pink looks good on you". As Jerry says to Brain in that moment "it was so random and perfect timing". It really was like lightening in a bottle for it to play out like it does.

Just A Lazy Shiftless Bastard

Alec Baldwin is the scariest funny guy ever. Even when he is telling a joke, he can seem like somebody that would snap in the blink of an eye. He is funny in this one for sure and I love the Burt Lancaster and Rip Torn stories he tells Jerry. But the dude is scary. I wouldn't want to sit across the table from him. Ever.
