I mentioned this on the "What Are You Looking Forward To?" thread, since it seems more like movie news than TV news, but I've been waiting for this.  Combine the fact that Netflix has a crummy movie selection with the fact that HBO has half the movies coming out until the year 2020, and that blanket licensing agreements are getting more expensive, it totally makes sense for Netflix to make their own flicks.  It was just a matter of crunching the numbers.  They'll have to play some serious movie moneyball to close that gap and give us TONS of quality flicks.  And hey, why not Adam Sandler?  Let him be the crash test dummy, he'll be fine if it all doesn't work out.  But if it does, that'll be great.

And until they develop their own strong in-house brand, they need someone who does repeat business.  The benefit of doing TV shows and stand-up specials is that they drive repeat business, so for now what they need IS someone who puts out multiple movies of equal quality.  keep the subscribers waiting for the next flick.
