Elton John – Million Dollar Piano
Without trying to sound cliché, I’ve been a fan of Elton John from his very first recordings. My fandom did wane after Blue Moves, but I kept abreast of his output. Elton is prolific and his performances are jaw dropping entertaining.
That view may have changed. I recently watched Elton John’s latest performance captured, known as the Million Dollar Piano. A Vegas show with a ton of glitter and shiny lights. That is not new. That has always been and will be Elton.
He and the band’s performance is what sucked. If there was ever a show that was called in, it would be this Million Dollar Show. Elton has definitely lost some of his voice. The band and singers all had their spots on the stage. I swear one of the female singers was actually irritated to be there.
The song selection really kind of nailed it shut as an old folks concert. All tunes are hits, but some were more show tune than rock. For those who have never seen an Elton John concert, I’m sure this came off as awesome. And believe me, Elton’s worse days are far superior to most artist best days. But since I’ve seen him perform many a time, I know the guy can bring down the house.
This concert was just a snoozer.
There was one highlight and that is when Elton performed Indian Sunset, without the band, but backed up by Ray Cooper, his percussionist. Ray has always been an outlandish performer. His movements exaggerated.
I won’t even talk about the most kick ass song “Saturday Night’s (alright for Fighting)” Where a ton of people got up on stage surrounded Elton and just became a nuianse taking picture or video’s and getting selfies. WTF? Song totally ruined.
