Adam Sandler - WTF
« on: May 28, 2012, 12:45:52 pm »
It's never been a mystery for my hatred of Adam Sandler. Like smoking cigarettes, I don't get it. I don't get the appeal. I have never once thought he was funny, let alone be a mega star. I think I know funny, but obviously I'm missing something here.

Perusing Rottentomatoes.com, I came across this little snap shot of Sandler's career. I'm confused. It clearly shows that most of his films are horrible... yet, they are making mucho dollars.

WTF.... how does someone continue to make films that are consistently considered bad by the masses, but yet is making massive amounts of money. Who are these people? 13 year old boys that pay to see them consistently and then say bad stuff? What gives?

His humor is very lowbrow that appeals to the lowest common denominator in most people looking for cheap laughs. The Wedding Singer for me is his best movie ever which still showcases that moronic humor...but with heart. Although Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore get most of the praise as being his best. I do like these two films, but I do tend to think they are a bit overrated. Still funny, yes. But not the best comedic films every created that most people would have you believe.

I wouldn't bash him entirely though. If you want to see a different side of him in a dramatic role, you should definitely check out Punch-Drunk Love. I remember really liking this one a lot. I need to revisit the movie because I haven't seen it since it came out. As for the rest of his stuff, I can leave it. Not so good. Well, I remember liking 50 First Dates. But I think that had more to do with my crush that I had (and still do) for Drew Barrymore.

His SNL days were always hit and miss for me.
