I love The 40 Year Virgin. Best Steve Carell movie ever. But as much as I dig the flick, I absolutely hate the ending they went with. Can't stand it.

Here's a cool little pseudo-documentary on Opening Credits...

THE FILM before THE FILM

Quote
We've previously highlighted the occasional spectacle that is a film's credit sequence by calling attention to The Art of the Title Sequence, dedicated to stylish opening and ending credits sequences that bookend the films we all now and love. In addition, we've taken a dive into one of the more iconic credits sequence artists, Saul Bass, and his legacy of work on films from Alfred Hitchcock and more. Now another interesting video called The Film Before the Film, which is the result of a research project from Berlin Technical Art University students Nora Thoes and Damian Pérez, dives into the history of opening credits. Watch below!

Quote
The 12-minute video gives time to Saul Bass while also looking at the trends in credits sequences from digitally designed titles, to throwbacks to the old titles of decades past. There's also highlights from many of the famous credit sequences we know today from classics like King Kong to popular films of today like The Avengers. Honestly, I always enjoy a good opening and/or closing credits sequence from the most complex and meticulously designed sequences like Catch Me If You Can to The Usual Suspects, which is subtle and simple.

I may not be a fan of the movie, but they at least got something right with the Opening Credit sequence. Nailed it.

It's a little NSFW so I don't think I should put the video on here but there's an amazing ... pretty astounding.  And BTW, I'm a  big fan of the little text in the credits.

Boobies! I actually liked the way the text was utilized. Is this actually part of a movie or more of a 'short' that someone was experimenting with in creating a cool credit sequence?

I'm pretty sure it was in front of a program or something (I'm sure there's quite a few of these in front of film festival programs or something like that).

Here's one that's not TECHNICALLY an opening sequence, but feels like one and I would TOTALY love to see a movie do something like this.

Weeds

Season 1

Season 4-6

Season 8

Without question, Weeds is the most creative and original when it comes to Opening Credits for a TV Series. I couldn't put them all in this thread and I was kind hoping someone had compiled them all into one video. But when it came to the theme song starting with Season 2, they had a different singer/band/artist singing it. The music styles ranged from blues to metal to hard rock to gospel and everything else in between you can think of.

Skyfall Opening Credits

I almost forgot to post this. A few days later, but it's better than never. I won't say this is one of the better ones in the history of Bond Credits, but it's still good to me.

I love that they can joke about sequels in such a fun and creative way.

Watchmen Opening Credits

Brilliant opening that condenses the history of the characters and their personality all in the span of 5 minutes with no exposition whatsoever. THIS is how you do it!
