I was thinking about this:  At SDCC they revealed they're finally making Superman/Batman, which they've been talking about for who knows how long.  Then it was announced that the Simpsons will cross over with Family Guy, THEN I heard they're also crossing over with Futurama (which they've done before in the comics).  I've even heard some speculation that these events will help wrap up The Simpsons run, which I think is a pretty big way to go out).

You know what I'm thinking... a few years ago I'd have said this was crazy, but how do you beat the publicity those things will get, those huge events?  The blockbuster gave way to the megablockbuster and now it's getting to the point where they're putting two big franchises TOGETHER to ensure these high returns these studios feel entitled to.

What will it all lead to?

I'm willing to be that SDCC 2015, we'll at least hear an announcement for STAR TREK WARS.

Think about it: Star Trek's box office isn't great, Star Wars is gonna have a big blast in 2015, and JJ is doing both movies.  I know there's legal issues, but I bet an almost guaranteed billion dollar payday will make those issues settle nice and easy.  After all, how do you top the return of Star Wars?

Does this sound worringly plausible to anyone else here?

Hey, I know if you approached it story-first, it'd never work.  But you approach it with dollar signs in the eyes, which is how we get stuff like "Battleship," yeah, I think it'll happen.  Remember, the guy in charge at Disney said that story doesn't matter.

I know the concept of it makes me sound like the same kind of adolescent fan that I hate, but I think we're reaching this geek pop culture critical mass, you can only go big so many ways and in so many directions, and this is one of those titles anyone who's into sci-fi would have jokingly come up at least once, so you gotta figure someone's thinking it.

And with special effects all being ubiquitous and movies sort of looking the same across the board (and with JJ doing both franchises) visually it would be less weird to see the new Trek actors and the new Wars characters in the same room.

I... I can, uh, imagine a skittish Mark Ruffalo sort of, you know, hanging out there in the back, uh, watching... everyone.  He... is... the thinke.r  The other guy is the, uh, muscle.

I just want to make it absolutely clear I am NOT wishing for this.

I would REALLY have to play Devil's Advocate and write out everything I would hope the movie would be better than to write down what I think it would be like.  It's not like "here's what I hope happens," more like "gawd I hope this doesn't happen."  Which isn't a good place to be starting from.  Novelty doesn't take you very far in the writing process, as my, what, seven pages of Elmore Leonard-esqe (or POORLY ATTEMPTING to be Elmore Leaonard-esque) take on Striptease will attest to-- not to be confused with my ACTUAL stripper movie script which is at 95 pages currently).

Plus, I've got my own version of Episode VII in my mind (cool young female Jedi in training, Luke as an old almost-cyborg self-destructing, etc) so it's a team-up between a movie franchise i have issues with and a movie franchise that no one else knows exists.  That's gonna be an easy read.
