Is this true?

Disney's $4 Billion Pay Out, Doesn't Include Original Star Wars

Quote
Disney will own and release future films in the Star Wars series (as for potential Indiana Jones films, Paramount retains some distribution rights and future movies will only be made if both Paramount and Disney agree on terms). Lucas apparently has sketched out plans for three more Star Wars films -- he always envisioned making nine -- with Episode Seven set for release in 2015. But Fox owns distribution rights to the original Star Wars, No. 4 in the series, in perpetuity in all media worldwide. And as for the five subsequent movies, Fox has theatrical, nontheatrical and home video rights worldwide through May 2020.

While the rights on those five films eventually will revert to Disney, that "in perpetuity" pact for the first film appears to be an obstacle to Disney releasing a complete set -- unless a deal can be made.

According to a longtime Lucas associate, the filmmaker always wanted to keep his films together. “Now it seems like he can't have a total package of the story because one of the movies is with Fox, unless they can make some kind of deal [with Disney] to release nine of them,” this person says.

Disney and Fox did not respond to a request for comment. But a Fox insider tells THR that as for Disney's blockbuster deal to purchase Lucas' company, "we certainly would have liked a crack at it but i get the play."

Fox plans to proceed with plans to re-release the supposedly much-improved 3D versions of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith in fall 2013. The re-release of Episode I -- The Phantom Menaceturned in only a fair performance earlier this year, grossing a total of $102.8 million worldwide. Fox receives only a relatively low - six percent - distribution fee to release those films.

It probably explains why the price is so low (compared to Pixar).  But that's fine, I mean, pretty much everyone who wants the old movies on DVD or Blu-Ray probably has them, or will get them used, so it's not like they could squeeze much more money out of that stone.   The value is coming from the new movies: the merchandising, the DVD/Blu-Rays, the online downloads, the TV and streaming rights, and the tie-ins.  It's all new content no one has seen before and the demand and interest in that is pretty palpable.

Someone Help, George Lucas Is Talking About Touching The Star Wars VII Script

Quote
NO TOUCHIE GEORGIE!!!! Sorry, I’m ok, I swear. We previously showed you a video of George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy discussing Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm. Guess what? There’s a part two! In this new clip, they say a few things we already know – they’re making new films, etc. – but if anyone thought the sale meant Lucas wouldn’t be involved in the next trilogy (a death sentence to most fans), they’d be wrong. Lucas is still Creative Director and will have his hands aaaaaallllll over that script. Also, Kennedy claims there’s no source material to go to for the new films which means you can ask for your money back on all those supposedly in-continuity novels, comics, etc. you’ve bought over the years.

Yea, I think I heard a universal sigh.

Doesn't George know about the Internet?
Peeps are saying stuff and he should listen.

George has gone on record saying that any journalist that takes into account the views of those on the internet are not real journalist. That pretty much sums up what he thinks of people like you and me and the rest of the planet. He's from a different generation when all they had was 2 tin cans and a string in between them. If you ask George what the 'Internet' is, his response would be "isn't that when you step inside a net"?

well, my take on rumors have about zero register on my radar... but thought I'd post this anyway... sounds ridiculous actually...

Rumour: Disney planning 2-3 Star Wars films every year?

Quote
As if the news that there is to be a new Star Wars trilogy wasn’t seismic enough, rumours are now circling that Disney plans to follow-up Episode VII with two or three Star Wars films every year!

An upcoming interview with Entertainment Weekly apparently has Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirming that the studio plans to turn out several movies per year, in order to explore the Star Wars universe to the full.

The thinking is that Disney would like to establish a wider-reaching universe, a la The Avengers, in which a variety of supporting characters are introduced individually, before being brought together further down the track.

Meanwhile, the search for a director for Episode VII is reportedly down two a couple of candidates, with Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder’s names still doing the rounds.

All should become clearer over the next couple of weeks, but whatever happens, we’re going to be talking about Star Wars for a good while to come

I heard that back a few days ago. It won't happen. First off, it would be beyond overkill. Second that over-saturation of that many Star Wars films per year would kill off the franchise faster than if George Lucas still had creative control of it. As for the directors, Spielberg and Abrams withdrew their names from the list a couple of weeks back.
