For the Poll, I stuck mainly with his most well known works which covers both Writing and Directing chairs. I think it's safe to say that his absolute best work came when he was doing it all from writing, producing and directing his movies all at once. But that doesn't always translate to huge box office numbers though. His biggest hit, money-wise is of course Home Alone.

For me, this is the easiest pick I will ever have in any poll. The best and greatest John Hughes movie of all time is of course The Breakfast Club. Not only is this his best for this Poll, but since the day it came out, TBC has been in my Top 3 movies of all time. I can't tell you how many times I have watched and rewatched TBC. Well over a hundred is not out of reach. I just think it was one of those once in a lifetime events where everything came together to create a lasting legacy that just keeps getting better and better of the years. Lightening In A Bottle comes to mind. And never does it ever feel dated. Everyone can relate to one or more of the characters in the movie and that includes the Janitor and the Principle.

As much love as I have for TBC, I'd be remissed not to mention some of my other faves of his: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, Planes Trains and Automobiles, which by the way is a family tradition wherein we have watched the movie every single Thanksgiving Day for the better part of 15 years straight....or close to that number.

Long live John Hughes. RIP

The Breakfast Club's Newest Member: Kevin Smith

The Film Society of Lincoln Center

I reeeeeeeeeeeally hope that the Q&A with the original cast from The Breakfast Club will end up online somewhere so that I can watch. It is set for Monday September 20, 2011.

Absolutely love Weird Science. Watched it again about a year ago and it still made me crack up.  Other than that, not a big fan.  No knock on the guy at all. I'm just completely ambivalent towards his movies.

The link was originally posted by Neumatic in The Breakfast Club thread. Felt that it belongs in this thread as well. Great read and I really hope to see Oil and Vinegar made. Would have been great to see Molly Ringwald and Matthew Broderick in this. And who's to say that they can't still star in this. It's not like Road Trips and Marriage flicks are age specific roles. It would only be fitting if they actually did this together.

Via Hazlit,

A Diamond and a Kiss: The Women of John Hughes

An interesting reading on the feminism, women, and sexual politics of the John Hughes flicks.  And with SO many cited sources, my god.
