Robin Williams (July 21, 1951 - August 11, 2014)
« on: August 11, 2014, 04:51:28 pm »

I was very shocked to hear just now about the passing of Robin Williams, but I'm even more in shocked that they are calling it a suicide. I'm not a fan of anyone taking their own lives. It just p*sses me off to no end. I don't want this to be his legacy. I don't know what was going on that would drive him to do something so drastic. There hasn't been an official ruling and may not in fact be what they are saying at the moment. Whatever the case may be, today is a sad day. I'm a fan of his. Love Mork & Mindy. Loved a lot of his movies like Mrs. Doubtfire and Goodwill Hunting. Love his stand up comedy. I'm glad that I took a chance on watching The Crazy Ones when it was airing. I thought it was great. It was classic Robin Williams humor. RIP.

Watching his episode of SVU.  Never knew about it.  Like an undiscovered little gem.

I like hearing Christopher Reeve telling the story. I miss him as well. The BEST Superman ever!

It's a touching story, but they don't tell the whole thing, because you can't have a touching tribute that includes a joke about a colonoscopy.

Such a sweet/sour thing. Sour is not the right word.

To hear a story a make me smile, while sadness hangs over both of their deaths.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Grateful for Robin Williams’ Kindness During Sharon’s Cancer Scare

Quote
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne were among the first celebrities to publicly share their grief over Robin Williams‘ death, and for good reason: Williams earned the Osbournes’ eternal adoration with a gesture of kindness after Sharon’s cancer diagnosis in 2002.

“I’m forever in debt to Robin Williams,” Ozzy explained to VH1 Radio Network’s Dave Basner. “When Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer, I’d seen the film ‘Patch Adams’ and it was a very — I don’t know if you ever saw that film he made. It’s about a guy who was a male nurse or something in a hospital and he was working with terminal people, and I thought, ‘What a great thing to do, and he’s a very funny man, Robin Williams.’ I got my agent to contact him and ask if he’d be so kind as to come around and talk to my wife, which he did. It was very nice of him.”

In a 2002 talk with National Enquirer, Sharon set the scene. “I was in bed when he came by, half asleep and a little woozy from some of the medication the doctors had given me to take Suddenly, there’s a knock on my bedroom door and I say, ‘Come in.’ And there’s Robin Williams standing in front of me,” she said. “Well, I thought I must be dreaming. In fact, I thought I was hallucinating from the drugs I’d been given! I couldn’t think of what to say, so I said, ‘Does Ozzy know you’re here?’ Then, Robin got in bed with me and said, ‘Shhh! No, he doesn’t and don’t tell him!’ Well, that just **** me up. I was in bed with Robin Williams. I started laughing hysterically. For the next two hours, he just cuddled me.”

It continues to be a precious memory for Sharon, who tweeted that “The entire Osbourne Family is grieving the loss of a kind, funny, generous and talented man.” As she told the Enquirer, “He was just the nicest, most giving guy in the world — he did so much for me.” Added Ozzy, “Forever and a day, I will love that man.”

I've been trying to disassociate myself from the sad turn of events and just focus on all the good stuff from his career. Really no need to dwell on the negatives at this point. Will try to find some time to watch his full stand up shows.

I'm getting over the sadness of suicide, it's more just knowing one less person who brings so much joy to world is gone. Leaves more room for asshats.

I'm sure I have his episode of Inside The Actor's Studio somewhere.  All I remember from it is him talking about going to school in San Francisco in the 60s, having a history teacher on acid, standing in front of the class, "everyone, look!  I'm LINCOLN!" and a student at the back yells "I'm Booth!"  That shut him up.

Okay, HERE'S a clip I'd never seen before: Robin Williams on Graham Norton.

And here's one I've seen before, but not in a while: the story of Zelda's name, and a fantastic joke about drugs.
