Ricky's Tacos

Better than average episode, but it felt kind of incomplete. Like what happens to the little girl that confessed about her father? What's in the empty office space or why is it so important? And why is the Captain evil, but can bond so easily with the little girl and get her to turn? And there was hardly any scenes with the Wife or the Son in this one. Even the scenes with the shrinks are.....shrinking.

Nightswimming

I liked the episode, but the entire time I was watching it I was trying to figure out what the hell the opening scene was and how it fit into the story that looked like was never being told. You have to stay to the very end to get your answer and it was pretty good, once there. Nightswimming indeed. Really cool to see Steve Lawrence on the show as Detective Britten's C.I. I haven't seen Steve in anything in a long ass time. Welcome back!

Game Day

The episode was just okay. It wasn't till the end did it good really good, by finally giving Britten the 'out' that he needed to cancel his impending move with his wife and it was pretty damn cool in how they did it. In one reality he discovers that his son got his girlfriend pregnant, but that she lost the baby. In the other reality, where it's just him and his wife who are about to move, he remembers the reality of where the girl loses the baby and decides to confront her to ask if she is pregnant. She is. How cool is that? He lost his son in the Pilot episode and has been desperately looking for something that is part of Rex to hold onto, only to discover that he is going to be a Grandfather. The episode ends on a cliffhanger where he is about to tell his wife the news. I can't see her wanting to continue the move with this baby on the way.

Slack Water

Fantastic episode. It had the pefect blend between both stories. The crime scene/case was interesting because of the switch. I just assumed that the target was the drug dealer and not the old lady. The Building Owner is pretty stupid to have his entire plan lay in the hands of a junkie. Not as smart as he thought he was. The other half of the episode was centered on Rex's pregnant girlfriend. Looks like she will be moving in with Rex's parents, which I am sure they are excited about, especially when they thought the baby was going to be put up for adoption. I just hope this has a better turnout than the same arc that played out on Parenthood.

But the best thing about the entire episode was the end when Brittan tells his Captain that he's not moving and that he will be staying where he is, at the prescient. The look on her face said it all. Rock and a hard place. She has to graciously take him back, which also is signing his death warrant. What to do........

Say Hello To My Little Friend

This was a pretty messed up episode because it not only played with Britten's head, it played with mine as well.  I didn't know what to make of his mental state, if reality was starting to merge with his dreams or if he was in fact accepting one over the other and that he did in fact lose Rex in the accident. But as soon as Kevin Weisman's character mentioned that he was the first at the scene of the accident, I knew immediately that he was the Little Guy and that he was the one that tried to kill Britten. Really great episode. It's a shame that no one is watching this show. Grrrr!

Two Birds

Awesome episode. I can't think of any other episode right now that can top this one this season for any other show. This one had me on the edge of my seat. I had no idea what would happen and I liked that it involved Detective Bird, in both "reality" and "dream". We finally get a name to the mysterious unnamed man that Captain Harper (Laura Innes) has been talking to, the one that kept trying to have Britten eliminated. Turns out he himself is a Captain of another precinct.

With the show now cancelled and only one episode left, my biggest fear about this show is that we will not get any kind of series resolution. It's bound to end on a huge cliffhanger, one that will never be wrapped up.

Turtles All The Way Down

I'm a little unclear about the ending of the series because I have only watched it just the one time. But from my perspective there is one of two choices to go with in trying to interpret it. On the one hand, you have Britten finally admitting that one side was a dream (the side that had Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) dressed up as a penguin) and the other side being real (the side with Dr. Judith Evans (Cherry Jones) as his therapist). In the conversation with Evans, he admits to himself that one side is a dream and then wakes up to be reunited with both his son and wife.

Yes, it's about to get even more complicated when lay it out even further.  Either Britten woke up at that EXACT moment to realize it was all a dream and was reunited with family or Britten in Evans office at the EXACT moment after having admitted it was a dream (while also still in a dream itself) and hearing Evans confirm this decides that he would continue dreaming but to create another alternate "reality" that includes both his son and wife.

You with me so far? Let me try it another way visually.

Reality #1 - Life with his Wife
Reality #2 - Life with his Son
Reality #3 - Life with both his Wife and Son

Up till now, he has been bouncing between #1 and #2 and in that instant decides to just merge the two into one. If it's a continued dream, and you're the one calling the shots, it makes sense to merge the two if you have admitted it to being a dream. Also, having a 3rd "reality" would make sense if the show did get picked up for another season because the TV watching audience would have another "is this real or not" reality to choose from.

I am definitely going to have to watch the Finale again and see if I miss any small clues that weren't easily explained.
