Episode 8
The Great Red Dragon

And so begins the Tooth Fairy story-line, last seen in the film adaptation of the Red Dragon. I know this story well as I have seen the movie a few times. But watching the setup tonight actually made me appreciate the TV Series and the film even more because of the background information and the relationship between Hannibal and Will Graham, it's taken on a different light. I need to re-watch Red Dragon and see how it plays now. As for this episode, it felt more in line of the classic stuff we got in Season 1 with Will coming out of retirement (this episode and story picks up 3 years from the ending of the previous episode). When Will starts to construct the crime scene and get in the head-space of the Tooth Fairy, and the return of Jimmy Price and Brian Zeller, it felt very familiar....in a good way. Hannibal behind the glass wall was the cherry on top of a fantastic episode.

Episode 9
...And the Woman Clothed with the Sun

My first reaction to seeing Freddie Lounds was "what the f*ck". She's dead! I wasn't entirely sure was to what was happening. I figured that it was just Will having a conversation with the dead. His conversation with his wife on the phone confirmed that he places people in the same vicinity that he is in regardless of the situation. The reason why this tripped me up is because we also got to see the return of Abigail, also dead. I figured that Hannibal was doing the same thing, but it was a flashback of scenes we haven't seen yet.

Episode 10
....And the Woman Clothed in Sun

Fantastic episode. Zachary Quinto returns as Neal Frank to flesh out what exactly happened between his character and Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson). If you go back to the first episode of this season, it was implied that she killed him with intent. But as she tells the story to Will, we get a different interpretation of the events. Really not sure what to believe here. My guess is that she is telling another lie (which is what Will accuses her of doing repeatedly) as her self-preservation mode kicks in. Gnarly scene with Bedellia shoving her arm down Frank's throat farther than what would appear to be logistically possible. Yuck. The scenes with Richard Armitage were once again electric. He has now taken the character of Francis Dolarhyde and made it his own. FYI, we need MORE Laurence Fishburne this season. He is gone for huge chunks of time, which sucks.

Episode 11
...And the Beast from the Sea

You know, from a design point of view for a show like Hannibal, I get why they created the interior of his Cell to look immaculate, pristine and lush as if it were of his own makings to retain what his life was on the outside. But in reality, there is no f*cking way any prison would accommodate anyone like Hannibal and give him such a gift. I'm glad they finally took away all his "toys"....to a point. His cell still has the same walls and shelf space. I'm hoping by next episode that those to will be gone. I'd like to see a bare bones cell as seen in Silence of the Lambs. Speaking of which, we finally got to see the infamous Mask and Dolly scene. Kinda. The mask was somewhat different. Kinda like half of Jason's hockey mask. Still a cool looking design for sure.

Episode 12
The Number of the Beast Is 666

When it comes to Dr. Chilton, we are always in uncharted waters and this episode is going to be talked about for years. People are going to wonder just how the f*ck they were able to get this episode on the air. NBC has balls to air one of the most disgusting thing ever.  I don't think I'm EVER going to be able to get the image of the Red Dragon biting and then ripping out Chilton's lips. Looks like he also got some of his tongue as well. Man, that was BRUTAL. And if that wasn't enough, he has Chilton crazy glued to a wheelchair, douses him with gasoline and then sets him on fire. How he survived, I'll never know.  To top it off, Hannibal gets Chilton's lips mailed to him and of course he would eat it. This is seriously one f*cked up episode.

Episode 13
The Wrath of the Lamb

With the news of NBC, Netflix and everyone else passing on the idea of a Season 4, every fan of the series had one thing on their minds. How will Bryan Fuller wrap up the series? How or what would we get in the Season Finale? Well, if there was any idea that the series would go out with a whimper, it was far from that. It went out with a MASSIVE BANG. Watching the final 5 minutes left me saying "Ohhhhhhhhh Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck". NBC, as much as I hate them for cancelling the series, at least let Bryan continue with his vision and that vision was bloody as f*ck. Seeing Hannibal and Will making the Red Dragon their own personal plaything as they stabbed, ripped and bit out his throat was throwing everything into it as well as the kitchen sink. The final scene with Hannibal and Will had a Thelma & Louise vibe as they both went over the cliff, presumably to their death. If there is a Season 4 elsewhere, they can always say one, if not both survived the fall. If that wasn't a way to end the series, it's the "Epilogue" that will leave an undeniable mark as we see Bedelia Du Maurier, dressed to the nines, sitting at her dinner table waiting for Hannibal to arrive. Obviously she doesn't know what has happened. It's when the camera pulls back we see that she has cut off her own leg, cooked it, dressed it and served it on a platter on the table as she was basically doing all the work for Hannibal as she fully expected to be dined on. Man, what a way to end Season 3.
