What's particulary interesting about one of the brothers, Steven Kowalchuk, is that he is a troubled kid who just happens to be a genius dealing in of all things, Time Travel and Tachyons. Of course this is going to interest Dan a great deal, it's just that he is not going to get the answers he wants from him since he is more or less "certifiably insane" and doesn't want to attract anymore attention now that he has gotten his life together.

As for Dan and Jack, there are some eye opening revelations about what makes them tick and why Jack is the way he is. Dan is able to finally see that his brother means well and reciprocates with a good-will gesture at the end which has a satisfying conclusion to it.
