I've heard a lot of good things about this and since I'm pretty much done with Glee, this opens up a spot for me to check this out. Premieres tonight, but Hulu has Special Preview sneak peek episode up now.

Pilot

I was a little leery about diving into another musical series, especially after Glee, that seems to go nowhere, with whiny kids and 95% crappy versions of hit songs. But watching Smash, those fears started to drift away in large part because of the characters themselves. I was immediately engaged and invested in all of them and want to see how it all turns out. The music was basically a bonus for me and more to the point, the songs are fantastic. As the review up above mentions, I really don't know how they can keep the level, production wise, they've set in the Pilot for the entire season. I'm down for the rest of the season. Should be a fun ride.

My wife enjoyed it. Haven't talked to her yet about why or if it's better than Glee.

Not sure I'll check it out.

No whiny kids with a story that goes nowhere makes Smash and instant winner for me. I'm actually surprised that I stuck with Glee for as long as I did, given the fact that it peaked in Season 1.

The Callback

I knew that there would be a slight drop from the first episode to this one. It was still a good one, but you can definitely see a little bit of a slip here. But the biggest moment was one that I saw coming, but didn't think I'd actually 'see' it. I of course am referring to the sex scene. That was some pretty awesome NBC humping on the air. Pushing the envelope to generate controversy and get press? I'm all for it. But how about we take it a step further and get Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty doing their version of  the scene from Bound.

My wife said she was a tad bored with this one. Not sure she saw the 'scene' though. She was up in bed 10 minutes before it was over. (shrug)

This episode didn't have the pop of the first one and I do see it going down a bit from here on out. I think they may have shot their entire wad in the opening and we won't see anything as close to it until the Finale is my guess.

Enter Mr. DiMaggio

Interesting twist with both Julia (Debra Messing) past regarding Michael Swift (Will Chase) and how this could turn her life upside down, working with her old boyfriend. And the other twist with Ellis (Jaime Cepero) stealing Julia's 'play-book', which suggest that this is gonna get down and dirty as he trys to position himself a bigger role with the play: Money. I enjoyed this episode for sure.
