Angry Andy

I've heard the criticism this episode in particular has gotten, and most of it is pretty much spot on. Just looking at the title of the episode, I knew what I was in for. It was a return to Andy's former self where everything  p i s s e s  him off. But in this case, I think it's justified because he had no other emotion but anger when he finds out that he has been replaced by Nellie. On top of that, no one in the office even has his back. This part of the episode really isn't what I have an issue with. It's the whole Kelly / Ryan angle. It's old and boring and doesn't really elicit any kind of humor. If anything, it just further emphasizes how stupid both characters are. Kelly is in a great "relationship" with Ravi played by Sendhil Ramamurthy of Heroes fame, but then throws it all away because Ryan is able to lead her on to the idea that they will "get married, some day.....in the future....probably not".

As bad as the episode is, there are some pretty funny laugh out loud moments to be found here. Dwight for the win. "I'm gonna prove it right here, right now". The conference room meeting about Impotence was indeed funny. But there weren't enough of those funny moments to save the episode as a whole. Man, it's hard to believe there was a good run of episodes somewhere in the middle of the season, but the last handful of episodes have really nosedived into crap as it limps toward the Season and possibly Series Finale.

Fundraiser

I did not think it was possible, but they were able to outdo themselves by turning out and even worse episode than last weeks. Just bad all around. Andy, with his "I'm fine" mentality was just unbearable to watch. This episode had only 2 things that I would consider funny, one of them obviously unintentional.

The taco gag was indeed funny. Well, maybe it was Craig Robinson (Darryl) trying to stay in character and not laugh too much at what Eliie was trying to do with her Taco, which made it funnier than what it actually was. And I, like everyone else just figured that Kevin was taking "care" of a dead dog, which is somewhat of an accurate description of what The Office is now.

Time to pull the plug.......

Turf War

I knew that Andy would land the deal with the paper company and figured he would use it for leverage to get back his old job. That part actually happened, but I didn't see Robert actually turning down the offer. The biggest surprise for me was seeing Andy offer the the proposition of buying Dunder Mifflin to David Wallace. I thought his cameo was a one time thing last week. If he does end up investing in the company, it would be a huge step in the right direction to go back to what Dunder Mifflin was....a paper company, and not Sabre, which is something I've always thought to be dumb. Different product = different show in a lot of ways.

Also, one of the best cold openings to any episode this season. So damn funny!!!

This episode was better than I was expecting. I was pretty convinced that it was going to tank big time. But I thought the Andy-as-a-Janitor gag was entertaining, because of the fact that he couldn't get any satisfaction out of it. Not sure why he would turn around and hire Nellie, who originally stole his Manager's position. I thought the reaction of everyone in the Office about Andy's imaginary friend "David Wallace" was the funniest laugh I had in the entire episode and when Erin started to have doubts about the validity of Andy's conversations with David, I couldn't stop laughing.

I like the twist with Darryl getting the girl that he has been pining for most of the season. The Dwight/Angela thing is interesting, especially with them making out at the end, waiting for the paternity test. We all know it's Dwight's baby, so it's kinda a weak "Cliffhanger" for the show to hang it's hat on in hoping people tune in next season.

Also, putting 2 Heroes (Jack Coleman and Sendhil Ramamurthy) in the same episode is probably not the smartest move. They couldn't carry their own show, no need to tank this one as well. Just sayin'.

Okay, having just watched Season 8 for the first time since it originally aired on TV, my feelings for this season really haven't changed all that much. It's still the worst season there is. I thought that with time, things would have aged better or whatever you want to call it in regards to what happens here. There's no getting around it. The lost of Steve Carrell was just too much to get over and it shows here. Kind of a aimless, wandering type of plot with no sense of direction. With that said, watching James Spader again was....eye opening. What I hated the first time around became more problematic this time because now all I could see in his acting was a precursor to what would become Raymond Reddington from The Blacklist. Only difference is that he still has hair. Now his performance in The Office is not bad by any stretch....it's just jarring because I still watch The Blacklist and that's all I could see here.
