Damn it Mac! You're increasing my Watchlist Schedule!! What do you think I am? A TV watching junkie?

I'm down for this, but why does Leslie Hope have to be in this? Ugh.

In other news, Paranormal Activity star Katie Featherston will reteam with franchise Oren Peli by making an appearance on ABC's supernatural drama "The River". Peli produced the series directed by Jauma Collet-Serra . "The River" stars Bruce Greenwood as Emmet Cole, a wildlife expert and TV personality who goes missing deep in the Amazon, prompting his producer wife (Leslie Hope) and son (Joe Anderson) to set out on a mysterious and potentially deadly journey to find him. Featherston will play a member of a TV wildlife team in the Amazon over a multi-episode arc.

I'm still waiting to add this to my Que on Hulu but I keep being redirected to the ABC Site, which I absolutely hate. I refuse to watch anything there due to extremely slow connections on their part. Every other site has been worlds better. Hell, even CW is better than ABC. Okay, rant over.

TV: ABC Sets 'The River' for February

Premiering on ABC Tuesday, February 7 at 9pm is "The River", which comes from the mind of Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli. Check out the trailer inside from the pilot, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Orphan).

"The River follows the story of wildlife expert and TV personality Emmet Cole. Emmet set course around the world with his wife, Tess, and son, Lincoln, while filming what would become one of the most popular shows in television. After he goes missing deep in the Amazon, his family, friends and crew set out on a mysterious and deadly journey to find him.

Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off. At the urging of his mother, Tess (Leslie Hope), Lincoln reluctantly joins her on a search for his father. To fund the rescue, they agree to let Dr. Cole's cagey ex-producer, Clark (Paul Blackthorne), film the mission documentary-style. The mixed crew of old friends and new acquaintances includes the sexy and resourceful Lena (Eloise Mumford), loyal mechanic Emilio (Daniel Zacapa) and lethal bodyguard Captain Kurt Brynildson (Thomas Kretschmann)."

Goddamit with the f ucking hand held shaky cam. It's making me sick. And frustrated. The mockumentary style editing and video capture does not suit me well. We got a little relief when on the boat with the stationary cam, but once on land, it's back to the stupid video. And it supposedly based on a television show with professional cameramen? WTF!

Have you noticed I haven't talked about the show yet?

Some scary moments, but after movie after movie of this kind of story, nothing new here.

I may continue to watch, but with great caution. I think I can buy into the paranormal story, but not sure I can take the shaky cam hate it, hate it, hate it.

It may or may not be on Hulu tomorrow. I have it in the Que, so hopefully I will get to check it out tomorrow.

ABC's 'The River' Has "Soft" Premiere

Yea, I can see why the numbers declined. The last half hour especially is asking the audience for a 'just go with it' mindset.

Quote
One thing about watching a new TV series is that you risk getting attached, only to have it canceled before the debut season ends. This is why I typically wait until the second season is announced to jump aboard (although I took the day one dive with "American Horror Story" and "The Walking Dead").

THR writes that the two-hour premiere of ABC's "The River," which, while soft in its returns and declining every half hour, still topped last season's comparable mid-season time slot entry, "Off The Map."

"The River" pulled in a 2.4 among adults 18-49, with a 2.5 at 9:00 p.m. and a 2.2 at 10:00 p.m.., and gave the net its strongest showing in the time slot since the fall finale of "Dancing With the Stars." ABC averaged a 2.4 among 18-49-ers for the night and 7.6 million viewers.

While off to a weak start, there's still plenty of hope for the new series from Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli -- but it can just as easily capsize into the abyss...

More of the same... soft expecatations

But as one person posted, thank goodness this has been built for just 8 shows. If the studio's did it right (and they probably didn't and include open ends for possible next season) I assume it will cleanly end. From what I'm reading, mostly negative, I expect to see even lower numbers for episode 3 and beyond.

I just need to determine if I can put up camera work... then I can concentrate on the story.

8 episodes? What the hell. You know, I may just put this off till it runs it's entire "Season" and then watch them all back to back. I'm very leery about it getting extended with all this 'soft numbers' talk.

Yep and they blew 2 of their wads like a cheap date last night. Only 6 more to go. When you do watch it, for me, I noticed so much and how fast they through information at you. To establish the foundation and then through it in to high gear to get the story going. That being said, I notice some odd developments. Not supernatural stuff, just bad story telling.

Los Ciegos

Admittedly I sat down to watch last night’s episode with a I-hope-this-gets-a-hell-of-a-lot-better attitude. C’mon… impress me.

It did not. The whole episode revolved around the group being stalked by a jungle tribe while most of the group starts facing temporary blindness induced by tree spores. All of this done before and none of it getting me especially engaged. I could care less about any of the characters. Scary? Hardly.

This particular episode seemed to take a break from its main drive to search for Dr. Cole. That doesn’t help the momentum. Brought that to a screeching halt.

And I’ll say it again and again, until the asshat studio’s get THE SHAKY CAM SUCKS!!! Enough. More scenes that just give you a headache. I mean, I’m looking away from the screen. Is that what they want? I don’t think so.

And since I was rather bored with show, it only highlighted the absurdity of filming certain scenes. Two scenes stand out. The group splits up and 3 of the members are soon chased by the tribe. Several times the angle of the camera is from someone who is not there, they treat the scene like a fourth person perspective.

An unintentional funny scene is when AJ Poulain (camera crew member), has crawled into a tiny hole under a tree, and somehow the camera catches his face crawling in and where he is crawling too… at the same time. So the camera has backwards facing lens? But the funny comes in when he starts to get buried, a tribe member yanks him out from underneath, flinging him about, near subconscious, and he is still holding the camera… pointed at him… when he wakes up… he continues to hold and point the camera at himself while he comes out of his fog.
Just plain stupid.

I may give this one more shot, but if it’s as stupid and/or boring, I’m done.
