There were some entertaining spots in the
Pilot episode, but that had more to do with
Adrianne Palicki wearing the
Wonder Woman costume more than anything else. So much was made out of the new costume design and how horrible it was and all the negativity that it generated among comic book and
Wonder Woman fans, that I was actually surprised later in the episode when she turned up wearing the vintage costume with the shorts. I wonder if this was their intent all along or if the creators of the show decided to placate fan backlash and go retro as a sign of good faith. It's a g a m b l e in alienating a built-in fanbase when a show is trying to get picked up and become a series.
In the end, it didn't matter because this was awful. The writing, dialog and acting were bad from start to finish. I love
Adrianne, but she was seriously miscast here. Honestly, I don't think any name Hollywood starlet would have been appropriate. They would have been better off going with a complete unknown so that there would be no baggage with the actress. I was also surprise to see
Cary Elwes and
Elizabeth Hurley in this one. I didn't know because I kind of stayed away from spoilers in case it became a series and didn't want to know too much about it.
Having said all that, this episode has the best catch phrase of 2011...
Diana Prince / Wonder Woman:I never said to merchandize my t i t s!
