Why Superman Coming to Supergirl Is Exciting for DC TV

They haven't even started shooting Season 2 yet and they are already off to a good start. But I wonder if there is a danger of Superman actually hijacking the series from Supergirl. It will be fun to get supes onto the show, but there is a serious risk that once he does come on and then leaves by the 3rd episode, there will be a fan-base that will deem the rest of non-Superman episodes a failure. Yes, I'm getting way ahead here, but there's some validity to that.

CBS DROPS TOM WELLING'S "SECTION 13" PILOT; COULD HE PLAY SUPERMAN IN "SUPERGIRL" S2?

Ever since the announcement that Superman will appear on Supergirl, there has been many to speculate who would take the role. Tom Welling's name has been near the top for most and with the news that his his new series was getting passed over, this is only going to make people assume he is the first choice more so now.

Superman isn't even on Supergirl yet, and he's already a total letdown

I have to agree. I've never liked the casting choice of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and with the debut image of him in the Superman costume, my concerns has been justified. He looks f*cking ridiculous. There is nothing there that screams he is the Man of Steel. He looks like a gawky, geeky cosplay fan, pretending to be Superman. What a horrible choice. Melissa as Supergirl looks like she could kick his ass standing side by side. I'm hoping that the theory that this is nothing more than a Photoshoped image proves to be true so that I can give him another chance to prove he is in fact the right choice.

Episode 1
The Adventures of Supergirl

I suspected that with the announcement that Superman would be a living character within the Supergirl universe and more precisely in the first two episodes of Season 2, there was a chance that he would dominate the proceedings and sure enough, Superman/Clark Kent basically rendered Supergirl/Kara almost as a 'guest star' on her own series. I found the Superman story-line to be the biggest draw as well as its biggest hurdle moving forward. Since so much has been dumped on the Man of Steel, what's going to happen when he leaves and the rest of the cast is tasked to carry the show? We all know they can succeed, but I think once he leaves, there will be a big gaping hole and that means everyone: cast and writers, better up their game to offset Superman leaving. With that said, this episode was pretty good. I like that they are already expanding some of the back story to include Lex Luthor (who is never seen and in prison) as well as Lena Luthor...his sister, who looks to be groomed to be the series Big Bad. One last thing, I liked what Tyler Hoechlin brings as Superman, but I hate what they did with his costume. I can't stand in how they attach Superman's cape. What the f*ck is up with that? Supergirl's costume has the traditional attachment, but they do something completely different with Superman for the sake of being different. It looks stupid. FYI, the Special FX looked great and I'm surprised at how good it looks given that their budget was cut in the move to the CW. They may have blown most of their money in Episode 1.

Supergirl | Heroes v Aliens Trailer | The CW

The 4-Night Crossover Event starts tonight on Supergirl, continues tomorrow on The Flash, on Wednesday it picks up on The Arrow and concludes on Thursday Night on Legends of Tomorrow. I'm excited for this. This is what I have been waiting for since news that Supergirl was moving from CBS to the CW. With that said, I will be waiting for all the episodes to air this week and then binge watch them on Saturday Night. I want to watch it all in one day instead of one week.

I made a mistake in saying last week was the start of the Big Event Crossover. Nope....it starts tonight. D'oh!

Episode 8
Medusa

Part 1 of the 4 Night Event pits Supergirl against Cyborg Superman, as brief as it is. This wasn't the main crux of the story-line. It  was more about Lillian Luthor and Lena Luthor building and weaponizing a missile that can target alien lifeforms and terminating them. Everything that happens he was very predictable in how it would play out. I knew that Lena would betray her mother and be the 'good guy' in the scenario. The other half of the episode is setting up a romance for Kara/Supergirl. I don't mind this, I just think they are taking the wrong tone in making her a love sick puppy that is pining after Mon-El. Even though there were some big hiccups with this episode, I was still entertained by what we got. As for the Team Up I have been waiting for, it's only alluded to in the final scene when Barry and Cisco teleport from their dimension into parallel universe Earth and asking Kara for her help.

One other thing I gotta mention and it has nothing to do with this episode. I forgot to review it, but I really dug seeing Lynda Carter back in Episode 3 as The President. There were a couple of very well-timed inside jokes alluding to her role as Wonder Woman (her Jet and her spinning in place ability to change from civilian to WW). I want to see more of her. She still looks amazing.

Episode 22
Nevertheless, She Persisted

Solid Season Finale with Supergirl, Superman and what seems like every other alien race that has appeared on the series so far coming out to take on Rhea and her soldiers. I like that they cast Teri Hatcher in the role. She looks to really be having fun with this character. It just sucks that they killed her off before they were able to work in a scene with Dean Cain. How or why they would share a scene is irrelevant. Just wanted to see it happen. I dug the fight scene between Supergirl and Superman, but I'm not buying it that she would beat him with an uppercut. I have no idea who the baby was that was sent to Earth 35 years ago in the Epilogue of the episode. Very curious who it turns out to be. Gotta wait for Season 3 for that to happen though.

Season 3 Episode 23 Season Finale
Battles Lost and Won

Posting here instead of starting a new thread just to talk about one episode....the Season Finale. Overall, I thought Season 3 was good. Could have been better, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. The main storyline running throughout the season was that of Reign, a foe equal to that of Supergirl, hellbent on teraforming Earth and creating a New Krypton. Reign played to perfection by Odette Annable, who I haven't seen in anything long term since the short-lived Breaking In, was a nice surprise. But it's the Finale that I want to talk about. The ending....WTF! Seriously don't know what is happening, but to me it seems that the writers are basically setting up an alternate and perhaps Evil Supergirl/Kara given the events earlier where she needed the help of the Black Rock to defeat Reign. It's a cliffhanger....just one that really wants to keep you guessing one way or another in what they plan to do moving forward. As for the whole of the Finale, it felt very rushed. I literlly thought I miss huge chunks of the story because of the big jumps from one scene to the next. Also, not sure I like that they split up the core group at the end. Mon El and Winn head off to the Future and J'onn retires from the DEO. It looked and felt like it was finite. But that could be the intended goal here. Split everyone up and have a major threat (Evil Supergirl) as the reason to bring them all back together. Yeah, I'm definitely coming back for Season 4.
