Keep Your Enemies Closer

Nice change of pace by having this episode take place in Russia as Diggle, Oliver and Felicity break into the Gulag to rescue Lyla, who is held captive with Deadshot in tow. It's ironic that Diggle would have to "partner" up with him to make it out of the Prison alive. He does impart a little gift to Diggle by giving him the name of H.I.V.E. as the one that ordered the contract on Diggle's brother. Kind of strange to see the Black Canary "disappear" in the present day story arc, but have Sarah still around on the ship with Ollie during the flashbacks.

State V. Queen

Pretty big episode for a number of reasons. First was seeing The Count (Seth Gabel) and the Dollmaker (Michael Eklund) escaping prison due to the man-made earthquake when Malcolm Merlyn set out to destroy the Glades 6 months earlier. Too bad that the Count didn't even last the entire episode. It would have been great to see Seth get more future episodes, but the purpose of his return was to Oliver to break his 'no killing' code and with Felicity caught in the cross-hairs, there really was no other alternative. But the biggest reveal came at the end when Malcolm Merlyn resurfaces and confronts Moira Queen. Now I had always anticipated his return, even though he was "dead". The twist on top of this twist was finding out that Thea is his daughter. Now, this really wasn't all that much of a surprise because when Moira admitted having an affair to her kids, it didn't take a genius to put two and two together.

Elsewhere (back on the Island via flashbacks), we are getting closer and closer to the moment where Slade will don the Deathstroke Mask now that his face is deteriorating at a rapid pace.

The Scientist

I'm glad that I avoid spoilers, promo's and trailers. If I paid attention to any of those, I would have been deprived of a pretty cool surprise in The Scientist. Turns out that the 'Scientist' is none other than Barry Allen. For those that are unaware, he is The Flash, another big Superhero in the DC Universe. This episode was pretty big in setting up a lot of things, which actually felt like a Season Finale more than anything. So, this makes the episode even more epic in my eyes. Along with the introduction of Barry Allen / The Flash, we also see the "birth" of Deathstroke when Slade is injected with the serum. Awesome cliffhanger as well. Having Diggle and Felicity kidnapping Barry and bring him to the Arrow's lair in the hope that he can save a dying Oliver is exactly how you end an episode. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This episode SCREAMED backdoor Pilot for what will eventually be the Flash spin-off and I'm 100% on board with it. I'm already there. They just need to film, edit and put it on the air so I can watch it. Casting Grant Gustin as Barry Allen is a great choice, although I do suspect that they are trying to grab fans of Andrew Garfield from Spider-Man fame as they both look a lot alike. I recognized him when it was revealed he was in fact Barry. I just couldn't place where I had seen him before. I had to google his name to realize that he had guest-starred on 90210. Anyway, THIS episode was everything and more and THIS episode points out why Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is failing big time.

Three Ghosts

The Three Ghosts refers to Shado, Slade and Tommy, each one a manifestation of Oliver and his survivor's guilt as he had a hand in each ones death. As Oliver tries to come to terms with what he did to each one of them, Sebastian Blood is on the verge of creating an army using his serum to make them super-strong. The episode is good, but it's the final 5 minutes (as is always the case with this show) that takes it to another level and gives us a worthy cliffhanger. First off, it's revealed that Sebastian isn't the "Boss" but is in fact working for......Slade. Yep, the same person that Oliver thought was dead. And yes, he's in Starling City. The next big moment and the best by far is that we get to see Barry Allen and the accident that will change his life forever. I didn't expect to this see on Arrow. I figured they would save it for his own series. The last scene of the episode was a long time coming.....it's Oliver finally putting on a legit mask to hide his identity. As much as I dig the show, the grease paint mask was always laughable in concealing his identity.

Blast Radius

Very cool to see Sean Maher pop up on the show. Without knowing anything about the character, my immediate reaction was "don't kill him off". Why? Well that should be obvious. I want to see him and Summer Glau share a scene together. Any fan of Firefly will want the same thing. Good thing is that he survived by episodes end and is now incarcerated. So, we may get that mini Firefly reunion down the road. Turns out that Sean is playing Mark Scheffer / Shrapnel, who has a history in the DC Comics Universe. Personally, I've never heard of the character till now.

Blind Spot

A decent episode that was more about discrediting Laurel since she was getting closer and closer to uncovering the true identity of Sebastian Blood. It wasn't hard to discredit her with her drug use and the fact that she "killed" the Mask man, only to reveal that it was one of his soldiers taking the fall to throw Arrow and Laurel off the track. It worked......for the time being. Well, at least this episode finally gave us Slade / Deathstroke in full armor. Can't wait for the showdown with Arrow.

Tremors

Not the best episode out there. It was average at best, but it did however give us two big reveals. Literal reveals. The first one caught me totally off guard is the very reason why it worked so well. With Arrow needing Roy's help, when Oliver steps into camera frame without the mask on, my reaction to this was echoed by Roy. 'Whoa' indeed. The second reveal concerned Laurel. With her pill popping and booze hounding causing her to spiral out of control, Oliver calls someone on the phone to come help her. My first thought was "why is he calling her dad?". That was already a failed attempt on his part. But I was able to figure it out beforehand that it would end up being Sara (Black Canary), her long thought-dead sister. Fade to black. Literally. Of course Laurel would pass out from the booze just before she could focus on Sara's face. Gotta wait till the next episode to see how this plays out.

Heir to the Demon

Awesome episode that had a lot of sh*t happening from all sides. Where to start? Might as well start with the introduction of a new character into the Arrowverse. That would be Nyssa al Ghul (Katrina Law), the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul, the leader of the League of Assassins. Nyssa is back in Starling City to reclaim Sara Lance / Black Canary. I'm not familiar with the comics mythlogoy regarding these two specific characters and what their history is, but my eyes popped out and my jaw hit the floor when we got a little taste of Girl Superhero action on Girl Superhero. Yowzza. That took me by surprise.

Another bombshell is that Felicity discovered the secret that Moira was keeping about Thea's real birth father. Naturally she confronts Moira about it and of course is threatened to keep the secret as well. So, I was kind of shocked that she didn't and decided to tell Oliver anyway. Laurel learns that Sara is indeed alive. But instead of a happy reunion, the crack is wide open and looks to stay that way for some time now that Laurel blames her for everything. This obviously sends Sara running out the door (some superhero, huh?) and into the arms of Oliver. I was wondering if they would ever rekindle their romance. Not sure if it is permanent, but it's nice to know that Sara will be sticking around in Starling City. Poor Felicity. She's not going to take the news of them back together well. If it wasn't already, this is now a full-on Soap Opera.
