My first impressions…

Two and Half Men

Tonight was the season premiere with Ashton Kutcher minus Charlie Sheen. I think the anticipation was high for last night’s show, thus the high pressure for this to carry torch of good comedy. I think it did a very respectable job. I laughed out loud several times and enjoyed how the show unfolded, first with the killing off (funeral) of Charlie and then the introduction of Walden (Kutcher).

I think the most striking thing last night was realizing how each character is very funny in their own right. Minus Charlie your attention is on Alan, Jake, Rose, Judith and Berta. The core director, producers and writers have not changed, so I suspect I can count on continued excellent writing. The new variable is the direction it will now go. I’m optimistic. I'll continue to watch.

Two Broke Girls

Brand new shooting out of the gate is a story of opposites. One smart ass, quick witted Max and 180 degree opposite socialite, suddenly poor, but polite Caroline making for complete friction between the two. Some of you might remember The Odd Couple. I absolutely love the sarcasm that exudes from Max. It’s quick, fresh and funny as hell. I’m guessing they both have a lot to learn from each other and that’s the premise to evolve.

James Burrows is responsible for this one and you should know his track record with television comedy is exemplary (Friends, Wings, Cheers, Two and Half Men, Big Bang, and on).

Last night had its hits and misses. I would expect that for a new start. You have to build these shows. Given time, I think it’s going to do well. I'll continue to watch.
