I loved and still love The Gong Show. It was goofy fun and I knew that at the time. It appealed to me. I watched it religiously as a kid when it was on. Matter of fact, I was watching some old Gong Show clips last night on YouTube.......so your Gong Show thread couldn't have come at a more appropriate time. Here's one of the clips I watched.
