Until I saw the trailer, I wasn't completely sold on the idea of a "Batman-less" Gotham series. I didn't think it could sustain itself without notable DC Comics characters. But having seen the trailer now, I'm actually very interested in this, especially since they have  Ben McKenzie playing Detective James Gordon. Was curious who they would get to play Bruce Wayne. Looks like it's David Mazouz, who I last saw in Touch.

Good analysis of what Gotham could be as a series.

Oh, and the heck with the mayor of Gotham being RICHARD KIND?  That was out of left field.

I dug the trailer, looks interesting... my only real thing though, I would have buried the lead, made it look like "okay, this is going to be an awesome cop show, you're in, and then to sweeten the deal, you realize it's a Batman property!"

One thing I didn't pick up on until the discussion (even though I saw the tag lines 'Before Catwoman, Before Joker...') was that Bruce Wayne would most likely be interacting with those eventual iconic badasses.....as kids, which is something that I've never experience in any comic book title.

This is their reaction to the first cut of the Pilot episode and is not a review. They were actually told not to review it because they have every intention of editing, tightening and cutting scenes before it airs. Also, this is spoiler-free and can be watched without fear of major plot arcs being revealed. With that said, I'm still on board with the show, even if they aren't overly enthusiastic. Even they know that the Pilot they saw isn't the one that will air. So, their opinions have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Thought you guys would want to know...

Netflix lands Fox's 'Gotham' after first season worldwide

Quote
LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Warner Bros. Worldwide TV Distribution will deliver the upcoming Fox drama series "Gotham" exclusively to Netflix worldwide after its first season, the companies announced Tuesday.

The pact is unusual not only because the series has yet to air an episode but because WB is granting Netflix multi-territory rights as opposed to the typical country-by-country dealmaking.

"In this era of new business models and expanding windows, this is an unprecedented deal for our company and our industry," said Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, president, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution, in a statement.

Netflix has proved it's willing to take risks for what it perceives to be top-shelf content, as evidenced by the streaming service's deal just last week with Sony Pictures Television for rights to the NBC drama "Blacklist," which emerged as a hit during its first season.

Awesome awesome news.  Do they know if the show is good?  How much would it suck to pay that insane amount of money for a klunker that gets cancelled?

I think it's gonna have to be an epic failure for it to not go beyond the first season and even then, WB will not pull the show. This is a key series to get their TV thing going. To have a flagship title like Gotham tank would put all the other shows in jeopardy.

Really? One show could jeopardize other shows or a studio?

DC is trying to establish a DC Universe on TV to compete with Marvel. If Gotham fails, it can start a domino effect and it wouldn't look good if their "Batman" series, the crown jewel character of DC goes belly up. WB and FOX will MAKE it work....no matter how costly it gets. Now this is all on the presumption the show sucks. I don't think it's gonna. I like what I've seen so far with the Promos, Trailers and Clips.
