Episode 6
Spirit of the Goat

Based on the promos from last week at the conclusion of said episode, I was 100% certain we were getting a Scarecrow episode. Turns out the man in the mask is something called Spirit of the Goat. I have no f*cking idea who that is. Never heard of him before. The episode as a whole was okay, nothing to write home about. It's not until the final scene does the show hint at something better than what we are getting at the moment. With James Gordon arrested for the murder of Cobblepot, it was just a matter of when he would make his grand entrance to save Gordon for being wrongfully accused of his murder. I did like the fact that they gave more screen time to Edward Nigma. I like the little Easter egg on his coffee mug in the form of a Question Mark.

Episode 7
Penguin's Umbrella

It took them 7 episodes to finally produced a worthy entry to the series and one that lives up to the name of all things Batman. It wasn't perfect, but it came pretty close. It finally gave us a deeper insight into Jim Gordon and how he will stand firm and not be swayed to go to the "dark side", even with his "co-workers" basically exiling him because he won't. Loved that he would clear the precinct so that he could go one on one with the guy that is there to basically kidnap him and deliver him to Don Falcone. We also get to see exactly how Gordon affects young Bruce Wayne and that Bruce kind of looks at him as his surrogate father figure. We get to see that Alfred has some kick-ass attitude by subduing the Detective. We get to see just how manipulative Penguin is and how much glee he gets from killing those that would cross him. But the biggest thing this episode served up was the fact that Penguin and Falcone actually have a "partnership" and that he is helping Falcone take down the likes of Fish Mooney and Sal Maroni. My only gripe with the epiusode is that Falcone lets Gordon go with no strings attached. Kind of makes the "threat" that preceded it pointless.

Episode 8
The Mask

Kind of a weak episode that centered around some corporate ladder 'Fight Club' where those vying for a job are pitted against each other and whoever wins, gets the job. Yeah, pretty weak. The best thing about this episode was definitely Bruce Wayne going to school. getting picked on by the school bully and then Alfred finding about it all and driving Bruce to the kids house to watch Bruce kick the ever loving sh*t out of him. It was awesome. The final scene has Bruce asking Alfred if he would teach him how to fight (in spite of the smackdown we just saw). So, the seed is planted and his training is about to begin........

Episode 9
Harvey Dent

The episode I have been waiting for. We finally get Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle in the same room. And right off the bat (pun not intended), we see Bruce is developing a crush on her. I like the idea of Kyle staying at Wayne Manor as it will give them more time to bond. It's hard not to think of what their relationship will become in the future since we all know it and I think that's why I wanted to see this get started more than anything else. Oh, and some Harvey Dent guy shows up to. I wonder if he will ever truly become Two-Face during the run of the series.

Episode 10
LoveCraft

For a mid-season finale, I was expecting way more than what we got here. Sure, it was kind cool to see Selina showing Bruce the ropes and hiding him out in the seedier part of Gotham as they elude assassins hot on their trail. And it was cool to see Alfred going all bad ass on people. But the episode itself wasn't the best of the bunch. I guess the whole purpose was just to get to the point where Gordon has to accept a demotion and be transferred to Arkham Asylum to work as a guard. Sure, this will open up new stories to tell, but it's how he got there that seemed a bit contrived. Bonus was getting the debut of Copperhead.

Episode 11
Rogues' Gallery

After a long fall break, I was hoping for something big. With the mid-season finale shipping Jim Gordon off to Arkham Asylum as punishment, I had high hopes we were going to get something special in the return episode. The episode was just okay for me. What miffed me is that it seems like no thought went into anything regarding Arkham at all. It was just......blah. There was no forethought into set design to differentiate this 'Prison' from any other that we have seen on TV before. Granted, the Warden did threaten to send Jim to the worst part of Arkham, But they still should have done something unique with the set given how much lore and mythology is tied up with the building. Here's hoping they get it right when Jim does venture off into the deeper parts of Arkham. Definitely a missed opportunity here. One thing they did get right was the introduction of Morena Baccarin's character.

"GOTHAM" GETS RENEWED FOR SECOND SEASON

The ratings numbers haven't been stellar and the last couple of episodes have been average at best. But at no time did I never think it wouldn't get renewed.

Episode 12
What the Little Bird Told Him

A good rebound episode for the series. Not sure where they are taking Jim Gordon, but they seemed to make him a bit 'hammy' with the reactions and one-liners he was dishing out, which I thought was kinda funny. The big news for this one was finally wrapping up the whole "mole" working for Fish Mooney thing. It was getting a bit stale. Gonna be interesting to see what Falcone does with Fish now that he knows what she has been up to. FYI, where the f*ck is Bruce Wayne? Seems like he has been MIA for half the season.

Episode 16
The Blind Fortune Teller

I haven't written any reviews for the past few weeks, but I'm still watching the show. It has gotten better lately and in The Blind Fortune Teller, they really give us something to sink our teeth into. How about the Joker? Well, they never come right out and say it is and how can they. He's just a kid and clearly isn't the Joker we all know today. But the kids sinister grin and cackle clearly marks him as the one who will eventually become Batman's biggest and most dangerous foe and it was great to see unfold. The interrogation scene between Gordon and Jerome was perfect, where the kid is "innocent" one second and evil the next. I really like the casting of Cameron Monaghan. I really liked that they also introduced the Greyson's at the Circus. For those that don't know, this is the traveling circus that will one day give us Dick Greyson who will one day become Robin. Bonus points for casting Mark Margolis as Jerome's father. If that name doesn't ring a bell for you, maybe Héctor "Tio" Salamanca will.

Cameron Monaghan as Jerome a.k.a. "The Joker"

Tell me that isn't the Joker. It most definitely is!!!! There's even one line he gives that sounds EXACTLY like Jack Nicholson and I'm pretty sure it was intentional.

Of course, the scene where he insults the waitress really nails down the similarities!

(Oh, I can't make a Five Easy Pieces reference?)

Episode 17
Red Hood

I really liked this episode for a couple of reasons. For starters, any episode that has Fish Mooney jamming a spoon in her eye, ripping it out and then stomping on her eyeball on the floor all in the name of showing that no one will dictate terms to her is automatically going to get 5 Stars from me. It was one of the most bizarre and inspired things to happen on Gotham so far. It was nuts and took me totally by surprise. Sure, it was out of left field and really didn't make sense as to why she would go there so quickly. I for one don't mind the occasional thing that I can't guess beforehand. Another thing I liked was of course the 'Red Hood' gang where every member of the gang ends up dead by he end. But one thing that is sure to keep fans of the show guessing is just who the real Joker is. We all assumed that last week gave us the reveal of the one and only. But at the end of this one, the kid that finds, picks up and puts on the Red Hood is sure to fan the flames that this is the Joker. Honestly, who knows. The writers clearly are going to be giving us plenty of red herrings to keep us guessing and I'm okay with that. But I really hope that the "Joker" from last week turns out to be the one. The story involving Bruce, Alfred and Reggie Payne was very good and ends with Alfred getting stabbed and in the hospital.

Episode 18
Everyone Has a Cobblepot

So, Fish missing an eye last for all of what amounts to the wait time between the end of the previous episode and the start of this one. She wakes up in bed, bandage over her previously gouged eye to reveal the bluest eye of all time. Kind of weird to see someone with one Brown Eye and one Blue Eye. Anyway, solid episode. The best turn of events in this one was how Gordon was able to basically extort Commissioner Loeb into backing him as Union President. Sure, this goes against Gordon using tactics like this, but it was still fun to see it play out this way.
