Episode 1 and 2
Pilot / Bridge and Tunnel

So, I caught the Two-Hour Premiere last night, which was actually two separate episodes. So each episode clearly had distinctive story lines they were telling and that was okay with me. While watching both, I thought it was very telling that it felt like I was putting on very comfortable well-worn shoes and that was a good thing. Usually when jumping into any new series, there is a warming up phase to learn all the new characters and adjusting to how they are telling their stories. In this one there was none of that. Maybe a little of that had to do with them using quite a few scenes from the first Captain America movie, which did a great job of driving him the idea of just when and where Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) takes place. There were two things that surprised me when watching the premiere. One, the humor. I found myself chuckling at some of the comedic bits, which I wasn't expecting at all. The show is funny when it wants to be. The second thing I kept thinking about was the correlation between Carter and another favorite show of mine: Alias. You wouldn't think that these two would have a connection, but they have more in common than you expect. It was fun and I'm definitely on board. I do hope they give Lyndsy Fonseca more to do. I think her playing "just a waitress" is kinda of misusing her talents here. Unless she's actually working for Hydra or something, which would be a nice twist. Also cool was seeing that Enver Gjokaj is on the series as well.

Episode 3
Time and Tide

Totally digging the series so far. I mentioned in the previous post how it's a lot like Alias. Well, after tonight, I'm pretty sure they are using the former series as a blueprint. I've always been a fan of female driven series (Alias, Veronica Mars, Buffy, Dark Angel, etc....) and this one fits in nicely. I just hope that people give this show a chance but I fear that since it's not going to be a 'Superhero' show that they will stay away from it which will lead to weak ratings. I did read that after this episode aired that it took a 21% dip from the previous week. Not good. Those that skipped this episode missed out on a kick ass fight sequence. Agent Carter is a badass! A lot of action and surprisingly a lot of assassinations so far for just 3 episodes in.

Episode 7
SNAFU

Yes, I'm still watching Agent Carter in spite of not writing any reviews for the past few weeks. From episode 4-7, each installment was getting better and better, especially once you get a handle on all the characters and how they played off each other. But I think the series really got good was the introduction of Dottie Underwood, a Russian Super Spy to give Carter a run for her money. The back story was just as interesting as well. It was kind of like watching Dark Angel somewhat in how they are trained as kids and the brainwashing that goes on. Loved the episode devoted to the Howling Commandos in The Iron Ceiling which gave us insight into these little Super Spy Kids. I want to see more HC episodes! As for tonight's episode, everything came to a head. Talk about giving a character a send off. Watching Roger Dooley shooting out the window and diving out onto the street to save his soldier in arms was epic with the explosion that follows.

Episode 8
Valediction

Overall I think the writers did a good job with this limited series with the previous 2 episodes being the best. As for the Season Finale, I was kind of underwhelmed at how they wrapped it all up. Given that they only had 8 episodes to tell their story, this one did feel a bit rushed. I think the biggest letdown for me was the confrontation between Peggy and Dottie. I was expecting something big and grand given the fact that they had been teasing this for awhile. Even the kick out the window was poorly done. Granted, she survived and will pop up down the road. I just wished they had given more thought to the choreography because she went from this Super Spy to a sloppy fighter in a matter of seconds. Would I return if Agent Carter gets a second season? I would, but I hope that they give it a full season to give the writers some breathing room to work with and not feel like they have to shoehorn everything in to meet some deadline.
