Episode 5
4,722 Hours
Episodes 3 and
4 were decent episodes and the most fascinating thing about those episodes were related specifically to
Jemma Simmons and her fragile emotional state of mind since her rescue. If you have been following the show or my reviews, you will know that the best parts of
Agents of SHIELD is the story line of
Jemma and
Fitz. You can't help but pull for those two people to get together. But even though
Jemma made it back to Earth, I knew there would be something in the way of that happening anytime soon. At the end of last weeks episode,
Jemma says she needs to go back to the planet she was stranded on for 6 months. Whoa! Why?! So, that's where we pick up in
4,722 Hours. Kinda. The entire episode is a flashback in which we see how and what happened to her on said planet. The episode basically starts off as
Cast Away where she needs to fend for herself, hunt, eat and explore. The wrinkle is that there is no sunlight.
When she is eventually captured by another 'being' who turns out to be another stranded survivor, an astronaut from 2001, I immediately knew that he would in fact be the roadblock to
Jemma and
Fitz 'Happily ever after....' story. Sure enough, over time,
Jemma and
Will become a couple. They are the only two people on the planet (that we know of) and with their outlook for survival at an all time low, of course they would turn to each other. By the time we get to the second to last scene of the episode, we see that the flashback we are seeing is in fact her telling the story to
Fitz in present day, which means he is hearing for the first time about
Will, the one that she is in love with. How heartbreaking that must have been for him. He's got one of two choices: Help bring him back or do nothing. It's
Fitz, of course he is going to help her, but in doing so, he seals his fate (for the time being) of driving a wedge between him and Jemma. No 'Happily ever after....'.
The entire episode was fantastic. Easily my favorite episode for the series, but more to the point, it's the best episode as well. Really can't wait to see next weeks episode. I'm sure when they rescue and bring back
Will, he will become a member of
SHIELD given that he is from
NASA. It would make sense he would join their ranks. Also, it's a way to rub their relationship in
Fitz's face, which makes for great TV.
4,722 Hours gets
10 Stars for sure. I give
A Wanted (Inhu)Man and
Devils You Know 4 Stars each.
