Episode 6
I'm Coming Home to You

It's one step forward and then three steps back this year. I don't know what it is exactly, but this season has more weak episodes than solid ones. Poor writing is definitely one of the problems and the characters are just boring as f*ck. They aren't do anything at all. Season 1 was a knock out punch. Season 2 held its own and this season has been flat. If the writers don't get their sh*t together, this is definitely going to be the final season. With that said, my prediction of Mykelti Williamson's character is starting to bear fruit. I know he would be the catalyst to get Scarlet back on stage and deal with her stage fright.

Episode 7
You're Lookin' at Country

A lot of average episode so far this season. But this one was actually quite good. I've seen a lot of awards shows (Grammy's, American Music, MTV, etc...). But I have never ever seen the CMT Awards show. Even though this wasn't really an awards show, the entire episode was set at the CMT's and it was fun. I think the joy came from watching Luke Wheeler getting his ass handed to him and the fact that Rayna kept praising Deacon as her writing partner. I can't stand the Luke character, so, seeing him lose his cool was perfect. It was also fun to see Will lose too. I liked the the entire episode was set in the world of an awards show. I can't think of another series that has done that for a full hour and been successful at it.

Episode 9
Two Sides To Every Story

So, Nashville returned earlier this week from is mid-season hiatus and was looking forward to catching the episode. Only thing is that I realized that I hadn't seen the final two episodes leading into the break. I think this was around the time my TV crapped out and had to find a suitable TV as my replacement and that took a couple of weeks which meant that all my shows that I missed in that time were getting backed up. I thought I had gotten all the episodes for Nashville in the bag. I was wrong. So, I get another 2 episodes to watch. Kinda cool. As for this episode, I thought it was hilarious with Juliette stalking Avery with her sunglasses, hat and motorized wheelchair, as that was going to conceal her identity. Interesting turn of events for Layla. Was not expecting to see her hooking up with Ford. I liked the idea of Scarlet stepping into Gunner and Avery's band to save their audition. But it comes at the price of Zoey leaving. No idea if she is off the show now.

Episode 10
First to Have a Second Chance

Since I'm now catching up on the episodes I missed during the first airing, I don't get to experience the long wait of wondering what's gonna happen next. This is a cliffhanger straight out of the box. The episode seemed to be cut faster with really short scenes. A lot of information had to be told with Juliette and Avery getting married (what the f*ck), Deacon learning he has cancer, Gunner learning that Micah isn't his son, but his dead brother is, Rayna calling off the wedding (it's about f*cking time) and Layla swallowing a handful of pills, face down in a pool, and Sadie getting pummeled by her Ex Husband. Like I said, a lot of stuff happened.

Episode 11
I'm Not That Good at Goodbye

With Rayna calling off the wedding, I found myself gloating at Luke's meltdown. Can't stand the character or the actor and when Deacon pops him in the face, it was icing on the cake. With Deacon needing a liver transplant, it's clear that the only one that is going to be able to save him is Maddie. Just curious how they are going to play this. Will Teddy refuse to allow her to do so because he still hates Deacon? I dunno. Speaking of Teddy, when is that  h o o k e r  going to make a play and blackmail him? It's definitely coming. Just a question of when. As for the whole Micah/Gunner plot, I seriously hope we never see that kid again. He has to be at least 14-15 years old, but they were making him act like he was 9 and it showed. The whole story-line was a waste of time as it couldn't really go anywhere at all and it was only a byproduct of getting rid of his mother.

Episode 12
I've Got Reasons to Hate You

I misspoke too soon about the Micah story. There was one more episode for this stupid, lame and irrelevant plot. Please let THIS one be the last. They are wasting their time on this and it's taking away from what could be a could story line with Gunner, Avery and now Scarlet's band. Let's get back on track. I liked the song that Rayna and her two kids sang. I'd buy the CD just for that song alone. The scenes involving Deacon and his sister was particularly good as well. Overall a solid episode in spite of the whole Micah plot.

Episode 13
I'm Lost Between Right or Wrong

Meh. Kind of a boring episode. But there were a couple of good moments. I liked seeing Rayna high-jack the meeting to call out Ford and get him fired. I just wished that we had the chance to see it happen as it was done off-screen. They deprived us of a moment we had been waiting for a long time for. The cool moment was Avery getting props from the studio engineer. Everything else in the episode was just average. So, what's gonna become of Ford and Layla? He gonna mooch off her now, even if she is without work?

Episode 14
Somebody Pick Up My Pieces

I think it's hilarious that Rayna getting her nemesis Jeff Ford fired from Edgehill Records would in turn cause the Record entity to fold, leaving all the artist free to sign elsewhere and somehow Layla catches the ear of Rayna who is sure to sign her to Highway 65 Record Label, with Jeff in tow as Layla's manager. Ha, she just can't win!!! The ending with Teddy meeting up with the  H o o k e r  that could bring him down politically was interesting, especially with the reveal that her home is bug with surveillance camera's and audio. The question is who else is tied up in her world. Clearly Teddy stumbled into a sting where someone else was the primary target. Talk about wrong place, wrong time!!

Episode 15
That's The Way Love Goes

Not sure what I liked most about this one. I thought Daphne andMaddie's song was great. Rayna and Deacon's song was also good, but I hated the fact that the director turned it into a joke by having the audience members looking at their significant other with goo-goo eyes. It was stupid and it kind of wrecked what the scene should have been. I like the new name of Gunner's band: The Triple Exes. Very clever. Can we please kill of both Will and Luke already? Their character's are pointless. They usefulness ran out ages ago.

Episode 16
I Can't Keep Away From You

The most distracting part(s) about this episode were the God-Awful songs. Usually they serve up more rock-oriented music, but this was straight up Country which I absolutely can't stand. Also, the story lines were predictable, right down to the final scene where Sadie shoots (and possibly kills) her Ex. The stuff between Deacon and Rayna was a bit too hamfisted in their "reconciliation" with each other. Also, it was lame at how many times Avery texted/skyped with Juliette. I get that she is pregnant in real life and they needed a way to include her, but this was just too much.

Episode 17
This Just Ain't a Good Day for Leavin'

Another very average episode that played up Juliette's baby shower as the comedic centerpiece of everything. The jokes were too on-the-nose, especially her reaction to complaining about how Sadie chose now of all days to shoot and kill her Ex. Watching her fall off the rails was a bit too much. The show has never been about getting laughs and what they were trying to do here just stuck out like a sore thumb. With knowledge that Laura Benanti who plays Sadie has a new series of her own in the near future, I knew they were going to write her out. I just think they did a poor job of doing it. They should have had her go out with a bang rather than a "I need some time to deal with this on my own" cop out.

I never bothered to do a Season 4 thread for the series, even though I watched every episode. With that said, what a f*cking joke. I don't know who is at fault, be it ABC or the show-runners, but to end the series on a cliffhanger with Juliette's plane missing is the absolute worst way to end a series. Seriously, what the f*ck!!! F*ck ABC and f*ck whoever wrote that episode. F*ck 'em all. If I were running the network, I would have demanded that the final scene be edited out so as not to even take it there knowing that the series was cancelled. Why get people riled up like this? It does no one any good and just creates bad-will.

Article in our local "cool arts" paper The Nashville Scene bidding a fond farewell to the series.  I thought you might appreciate a local take on this.

Nashville Is on the Verge of a Fifth Season Renewal, But Where?

A sliver of hope in bringing back the show for a 5th Season.

I know the crew are rarin' to go.  And hey, Tracy knows I've never been on the show, maybe I'll get an invite or something.

I also imagine it would be easier for CMT to get the rerun rights than a streaming channel.  Given that Nashville is a sort of soap opera, you need that back catalog to go with it so people can catch up, streaming costs a lot of money, especially b/c of the music, but syndication on television is a different animal.  This is why I doubted that Netflix or Amazon would pick up the show, because they'd have to get that backlog as well.
