JASON RITTER HEADED TO PERSON OF INTEREST

Big fan of Jason, so this is great news. Having him join the cast of one of my all time favorite shows is indeed exciting. Looks like it will be an extended run and not just a one-off. Can't wait for Season 4 to kick off.

Episode 1
Panopticon

Welcome back POI!!! Been waiting all summer for its return. Glad it's back and it was interesting seeing the team scattered to the winds and the jobs that they have taken on since being on the run. Finch is a Teacher, Reese is a Detective and Shaw is, wait for it......working in the Perfume Department of a Upscale store. Not what I expected and that's why it's funny as hell. The opening was interesting and I'm curious who the Blond is actually working for. The Job that takes up the bulk of the episode was standard fare for the series. But its the ending that really has me intrigued with Reese essentially becoming Fusco partner at NYPD and will be working from Carter's old desk. Shaw takes on a job as a wheel man for a shady gang of thieves and Finch has seemingly found new digs for his base of operations....should he decide to reform the team again.

Episode 2
Nautilus

Totally dug the story centered on solving a City-wide puzzle with what appears to be a new character in the series: Claire (Quinn Shephard). I love these types of mysteries that take us down a path that we the viewer really have no clue about. We can't solve it because nothing is revealed prior to the "game". Even better was finding out that it was Samaritan that initiated the game to test Claire, who is a Grand Master Chess Wiz that beat 3 computers at once. Now you  can see why Samaritan wanted to challenge her. I like that it saved her at the end from the hit men. What's unclear is where the fatal shots came from. Who the f*ck shot them? Anyway, I think she is a new character given how she ties into what Samaritan is trying to do.

Episode 3
Wingman

With the events that happened at the end of Season 3, the gang has gone on to get real jobs because Finch no longer has untold wealth and he can't get to his money without Samaritan knowing about it. Thus their reasons why to laying low and off the radar so that Samaritan can't alert those working for it to take them out. So, that brings me to what the main objective was in Wingman. Root and Finch are basically stealing and then selling a Rocket Launcher, but he along with the viewer don't have any idea why this is happening. It's not until the very end when it's revealed that The Machine has been helping Root stockpile huge amounts of weapons and cash....all in the effort of helping Finch get back on his feet. There's something oddly romantic that a Machine is doing all of this just to win back Finch's trust. It's another reason why I love this show. Also great was seeing Fusco on the prowl, learning out to pick up women, thanks to his 'Wingman', which was really an undercover job that paid off with getting a Woman's phone number.

Episode 4
Brotherhood

Not a bad episode, but not in the same league as some of their more epic installments. I did however liked the twist at the end when it's revealed who was and is calling the shots for the Brotherhood. I didn't realize that Elias (Enrico Colantoni) was out of prison. Yeah, I saw the meeting between him and Reese in the previous episode. But I just thought that Elias had some "large space" in prison as one of his perks.

Episode 5
Prophets

Over the course of the series we have gotten brief glimpses into the origin of The Machine. But nothing can top what we get here in this episode. We get to see on the eve of the Machine going live how it is retaliating against Finch, trying to become independent of its Admin and is doing whatever is needed to break free. Whether it's by adding code on its own, hacking his laptop or actually trying to kill Finch by asphyxiating him, it was pretty eye opening to see the Machine acting this way. I'm surprised that more people don't comment on how Person of Interest could in a way act as a precursor to Terminator and Skynet and this episode in particular is the jumping off point where we see how AI, or more specifically, Samaritan can kill anyone it wants to manipulate the surroundings to it's benefit. Jason Ritter was the guest star. Not sure if this is a one and done appearance though. Was it me, or did they just set up a possible romance between Finch and Root? Nah....I liked Reese mentioning Detective Carter in his therapy session. It just highlights what a trafic loss it is without her on the show. Sigh.

Episode 6
Pretenders

The writing for the series continually surprises me and we get another prime example in Pretenders that they have a end game to it all. What starts out to be an "innocent" trip for Finch to Hong Kong, potentially setting up a possible love connection for him with Beth (Jessica Hecht) ends up becoming a well thought out con job on his part. The ending, when it's revealed that he purposely orchestrated the Laptop-jacking for the sole purpose of getting access to her laptop is one thing....but it's another thing to see that she actually has ties to Greer and Samaritan. Also dig that they are ramping up Elias' story. He has been stuck on the sideline for far too long. Nice to see he is coming back in a big way. Also dug the new character Walter, who offered a lot of humor with him playing the part of a "Detective". I doubt we see the character again, but it would be cool if he came back in a future episode.

Episode 7
Honor Among Thieves

It seems like every week their is a new and exciting character and every time by the end of the episode, I'm always left feeling like this is going to be a recurring on at that and Tomas is another likely candidate. He is definitely going to come back and some point given how thick they were laying it on with the potential romance between this world-class jewelry thief and Shaw. He may have left to travel half way around the globe, but he will be back. On a more interesting note, I like the addition of Shaw's protege that she trained, who is now working for Samaritan.....the bad guys. Unfortunately, he doesn't know they are the bad guys and at the end of the episode, we see Samaritan retrieving the deleted video file that shows him helping out Shaw. This isn't going to end well for him.

Episode 8
Point Of Origin

Decent episode that introduces another character that may or may not appear again in the future, this time a Undercover Cop that Reese helps clear her name on a frame job. This wasn't the most relevant episode as far as widening the scope of the series mythology. But the final scene more than makes up for it when we see that the next number belongs to Elias and the Blondie assassin has tracked Shaw at the Department store where she works.

Episode 9
The Devil You Know

Fantastic episode that was all about Elias. This was a long time coming and it was great to see Enrico get some scenes to shine within. The story itself was great as we see a man dealing with the aftermath of betrayal as his own soldiers turn on him and take up with Dominic. With Elias losing his right hand man and childhood friend Anthony, it now gives a moment to look forward to: Payback. I hope that Elias is the one to end Dominic and no one else. Not Reese, not Shaw.....no one but Elias. Speaking of Shaw, can't wait to see how she deals with Root for drugging her.

Episode 10
The Cold War

Loved how they opened the episode. We all know that Finch's base of operations is underground, using a Subway car and platform as their HQ. What we haven't seen is exactly how anyone of the members gets there from above. Now we know. It was very reminiscent of Get Smart, intentional or not. I thought it was cool that the entrance was built into a Candy Vending machine. Overall. another superb episode that finally gave us a look into Greer with his back story from 1975 and how he was betrayed by his own country and boss and how he left MI6 to basically become what he is today because of the human race and it's inherent flaws, which of course parallels why he believes in Samaritan as much as he does. In present day, Samaritan is manipulating the city by creating chaos, all in the effort of getting a sit-down with the Machine. Yes, it sounds weird. How can two AI's have one? That's easy.....with Root sitting in for the Machine, using an earpiece and Samaritan doing the same. What was interesting was that it chose a 12 year old boy to do its talking. This is the one thing I found confusing. The boy seemed to be evil and was enjoying giving out threats to Root. Who the f*ck is this kid? This episode is the kick off to the Trilogy story-line. Part 2 doesn't air until January though which doesn't make sense since this arc should air in consecutive weeks.

Episode 11
If-Then-Else

Nooooooooooo!!

Please tell me they didn't just kill off another member of the team!! Shaw is one of my favorites and if this is in fact the end of her, I'm seriously p*ssed off right now. Before we get to that, gotta start from the beginning. This was an interesting episode as it shows exactly what the Machine does in processing and then delivering the best possible outcome for any given situation. This is where it gets fun. With the team trapped and looking for a way out of a building, surrounded by Samaritan Operatives, we see 3 different scenarios and each one in the death of a major character. The final scenario was the only choice the Machine could make and that left Shaw getting gunned down as she sacrificed herself for the other so they could make their escape. She was bleeding out and still alive, but with a gun to her head, as it fades to black we hear a single gun shot. So, I'm still holding out hope that she is still alive and that the Operative would be smart to capture her and use her as leverage.

Episode 12
Control-Alt-Delete

Had to jump into this episode immediately given the fate of Shaw in the last episode. Prolonging it would have driven me insane. So, this one started off with surveillance audio of Reese's voice and we hear him saying ".....lets go and get Shaw back". This was good news and then the episode shifts gears and focuses on Control (Camryn Manheim) and it becomes a huge set up. We are lead to believe this will be one of those side episodes that focuses on others, giving the main characters a break. Or so I thought. It's about half way through the hour before we get the main characters and it's a doozy when they capture Control and torture her for the whereabouts of Shaw and also clue her in that she is nothing more than a puppet. Fast-forward to the end and it looks like she's still blindly following orders. But the final scene says otherwise. Looks like she has her doubts when she investigates the location of the shootout from the previous episode. So, is this the beginning where she will finally join up with Reese, Finch and Root when she discovers the real truth about Samaritan? Maybe. Still no sign of Shaw. I think once Control turns, that's when she will help Reese and the rest rescue her.

Episode 13
M.I.A.

What an interesting episode and somewhat of a left turn for the series. It almost felt like a futuristic horror plot with Reese and Root being led to a small town with it's occupants kind of being brainwashed through intimidation and implants to control them. Yeah, not your typical POI story line, but it does make sense that Samaritan would use a small town, in a controlled environment to learn and study human nature for it's own benefit. The entire premise for this was of course  pursuing a lead to find Shaw. With them failing to find her and Finch more or less abandoning the idea of pursuing her any further, it forces Root to break away from the team. I'm guessing she will be on a one-woman crusade to find her. She is alive as noted by the final scene.

One bit of casting on this one caught my eye immediately and that was Maddie Corman. She was immediately recognizable in spite of her aging a great deal since I last saw her. She is best know for her roles in Some Kind of Wonderful and The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. The last things I've seen her in were Swingers and Rescue Me. I will always picture her as a kid and not the grown up she obviously is because I haven't seen her at all since those projects come out with Rescue Me being 10 years ago. Sheesh!!!!
