Trailer finally out.  I had totally forgotten who the lead in the show was, so that was a pleasant surprise.  Don't see a release date yet.  And even though this is coming out for Playstation, I think it should count as "proper" TV in this forum like House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, etc.  But that's just me.

Another show I won't get to see until it's release on a format fit for those that don't have a PlayStation. Another waiting game for it's DVD release, should it get that far that is.

Same here.  Which is the point. But I'm sure there will be a release on disc to make back the money spent.

Seven minute video showing the actors and world of Powers.  No idea that Michelle Forbes was going to be Retro Girl.  Colour me excited for a wider release!

I just saw the trailer for this while watching Fury. Sorry guys I passed this up, but thought it was something I would normally avoid. I'm becoming a fan of Sharlto Copley. And this trailer caught my attention.

WTF is Playstation Released?

WTF is Playstation Released?

WTF

You have to have a Playstation 4 console and be a member of their online community to get the show. Yes, that's asking a lot for people that don't play games. Knowing you, you will just have to wait for the eventual DVD release. I'm in the same boat as I don't have a PS4 as I'm an Xbox 360 guy.

Well, isn't that interesting. Talking about splintering.

An experiment? They been doing this much?

There was this Avengers-centric magazine I saw in the grocery store the other day and there was a big article about Powers, whites the only press I saw for the series.  I think that the Playstation/Sony market might be too narrow for the series to warrant print space alongside Amazon and Netflix releases, which can be a problem.  Exclusivity is one thing, but you don't want too high a bar to entry, which a 400 dollar box certainly is.

I'll keep one eye on this splintering. There is so much change and evolution with home TV viewing, I gave up on posting about it.

Last week alone, I heard CBS is going to attempt the binge wagon by releasing a show all at once.

And just read Charter ( my cable ) is discussing more ala Carte programming.  I would think the cable and dish companies are shaking and taking a serious look at themselves and what's going on around them.

I wonder how many of the traditional realize that the reason binging is so popular is because viewers are tried of shows switching time slots, being cancelled mid-run, being pre-empted, being coated with bugs and pop-ups and interrupted with commercials.  Binging isn't just that we get all our episodes at once, it's confidence, we know where the show will be.  And Netflix doesn't just green-light one season, they usually do TWO.  A normal network can't do that, they need advertisers, they need viewers, they can't work on that scale.

TV, especially network TV, shouldn't be fighting Netflix and Amazon on the streamers terms.  Why?  Because they can't win.  They need to focus their strategy on their strengths, what Netflix and Amazon CAN'T do: be quick, be immediate, be appointment-driven.  I'm not nuts about Dancing With The Stars, but that's a show that's much better live than it is watching all at once.  You're invested.

Streaming is great for sh*t you need to pay attention to, for art like Daredevil or House Of Cards.  TV is great for having stuff to watch.  The whole time I was doing the film fest, all I was watching was reality stuff like Counting Cars and American Restoration... because it was nice and simple, just watchable.  Sometimes you need that.

I visited my sister last night and she has this cable channel called Palladia.  It's all concerts.  All that was on was The Killers killing it at the Royal Albert Hall.  That's a genius idea for a channel.  When I was in Boston, Efe and I were watching MNet, just Korean music videos, concerts, soap operas, etc... that's what TV is going to be in the future, I think.  I don't know how Networks will react in the face of that kind of specialization, but I'm sure they'll think of something.
