Episode 1

The Pilot episode is basically the 3rd Act of any Action Adventure movie you'd pay 10 bucks to see. Other than a brief scene at the very beginning showing us that Walter O'Brien (Elyes Gabel) is a genius hacker, it's very light on exposition and heavy on set pieces (within the confines of a TV series on CBS). In the case of this episode, it's a race against time to stop Airplanes from falling out of the sky and in their way are a series of obstacles that test their ability to get the job done before time runs out. They start off the episode with a "Based on a true story" title card, but everything that comes after in their ability to hack and circumvent and hijack a Ferrari and race alongside a 747 to download software onto a laptop, tethered only by a USB cable will leave you slapping your head in how over the top this all is, which seems to be the bone of contention most fans are railing against right now. I for one thought it was a wild ride and thoroughly enjoyed it all. I like the subplot involving the kid and the mother played by Katharine McPhee. Also on board is Robert Patrick. The directing chores for this one fell to Justin Lin, who most know exclusively from the Fast and the Furious flicks. So yeah, there is a nod there when watching the Car/Plane "race".
