Episode 1
Pilot

The Pilot episode is basically the 3rd Act of any Action Adventure movie you'd pay 10 bucks to see. Other than a brief scene at the very beginning showing us that Walter O'Brien (Elyes Gabel) is a genius hacker, it's very light on exposition and heavy on set pieces (within the confines of a TV series on CBS). In the case of this episode, it's a race against time to stop Airplanes from falling out of the sky and in their way are a series of obstacles that test their ability to get the job done before time runs out. They start off the episode with a "Based on a true story" title card, but everything that comes after in their ability to hack and circumvent and hijack a Ferrari and race alongside a 747 to download software onto a laptop, tethered only by a USB cable will leave you slapping your head in how over the top this all is, which seems to be the bone of contention most fans are railing against right now. I for one thought it was a wild ride and thoroughly enjoyed it all. I like the subplot involving the kid and the mother played by Katharine McPhee. Also on board is Robert Patrick. The directing chores for this one fell to Justin Lin, who most know exclusively from the Fast and the Furious flicks. So yeah, there is a nod there when watching the Car/Plane "race".

Episode 2
Single Point of Failure

It's not that this episode was bad, but it lacked the sizzle of the Pilot episode where everything was escalating as the episode kept progressing. This one felt more like a standard procedural show and it was more deliberately paced. Definitely slower than last week. Also, they didn't utilize the kid, which I thought was going to be a big part of the team. I'm still on board, I just think this is the kind of episode we are going to get from here on out. We shall see....

Episode 3
Cyclone

Decent episode. I kinda like that it borrows elements from MacGyver in creating whatever they need at the moment to get the job done. The plot of stopping bombs from going off throughout the city wasn't new. But it sufficed. Best scene comes at the end when the gang invites the kid to join their group. It may be metaphorical in him becoming a "member" right now. But I think somewhere down the line this season, he will prove a huge asset and solve whatever problem there is that the other genius can't. I also love that they have basically co-opted Rock You Like A Hurricane by the Scorpions as their song.

Episode 7
Father's  Day

Yes, I'm still watching Scorpion. I just forgot to post reviews for Episodes 4-6. I would definitely rate those at 4 Stars as they have found their niche. Watching Father's Day just reinforces that this is a good group of characters. I think they play off each other very well and surprisingly, they and the situations they find themselves in offers plenty of laughs. Not jokes mind you, but just in the way they react to the stuff. Another thing I like about the series is that they do tend to go into MacGyver territory. Really not sure if some of the things they do is actually possibly, but it's fun watching it anyway. The Potato Chip bag thing is one thing I don't know is real or not. But who cares. They are now starting to utilizes the the Kid Genius (Ralph) a bit more into the overall scheme of things as the band of misfit geniuses have grown fond of him and are starting to act like surrogate parents.

A really good read about the real Walter O’Brien and his claim of being the 4th highest recorded IQ ever. Right after I heard the narrator on the Pilot claim to have the 4th highest IQ, I immediately went online to do research about this to see if it was true. Read the article to gain insight about a man that makes the claim, but fails to back it up because he "lost" the paperwork that would prove he was ranked #4. None of this really matters because it has nothing to do with the show and doesn't lessen it one bit. But the man himself is not liked by most because he likes to boast and make sh*t up to make himself seem bigger than he really is. FYI, never heard of the guy until I started watching Scorpion.

Episode 8
Risky Business

It only took Eight Episodes, but they finally manage to work in a way for Katharine McPhee to sing. She seemed kind of uncomfortable, unless that was the point of her character Paige. With the plot driving by a computer program that can "write" hit songs, there was no better time than now. I expect more impromptu sing along's in the future. Toby's idea of distracting a couple of kidnappers with his beat-boxing skills has to be the funniest thing yet for the series.

Episode 18
Once Bitten, Twice Die

Don't let the lack of posts in this thread fool you. Scorpion is definitely one of my favorite new shows this season and it has been a blast every week. This episode in particular definitely needed to be commented on. The entire season has seen a progression of a bunch of 'serious' personalities foiling crime week in and week out into something better. I've noticed that there has been a conscious shift to turn the characters from 'serious' to more likable by way of humor. They may not necessarily be "funny", but the sh*t that happens to them is definitely getting a huge dose of humor by way of their reactions or things they say. Once Bitten, Twice Die is without question the funniest episode yet. There were a handful of moments that had me laughing out loud. Now it looks like the team is taking on a mascot, a ferret that they have affectionately named........Ferret Bueller. F*cking priceless!!!

Episode 22
Postcards from the Edge

The season finale was kind of ridiculous in how far they push the belivabilty factor with Walter hanging for dear life in a car, trapped on the side of a mountain where the slightest move will surely send him plummeting to his untimely end. But this has been the status quo all season long. The only thing and reason to check your brain at the door is because you want to see the team at work and the bond they have for each other, which is exactly why I love the series. For the later half of the season, Walter has been wrestling with the idea that he may be in love with Paige and doesn't know how to process that information. For a genius, he is definitely clueless in the realm of women......her in particular. The "cliffhanger" is that Paige confesses to him that she has feelings for him. The twist is that he is out cold from the morphine drip in the hospital. Can't wait for Season 2 to arrive. Scorpion is one of my favorite new shows this past season. It has been fun.
