SNL 40th Anniversary
« on: February 15, 2015, 05:49:32 pm »
I was really psyched to see this but so far it's just MTV rapid shot scenes from the past. A lot of old film clicks, quickly cut.  It had a long opening, and so far in the first hour, one long skit (which was funny).

I sure hope this gets better. They have a ton of folks to get through. I just hope it's not walk-ons.

I've been waiting all week for this. Looking forward to tonight. Don't forget that this is a 3 week event. Next Sunday and the following Sunday we will see more.

Something about impersonating dead actor's characters just rubs me the wrong way.  Anyone else?

The Red Carpet starts in 10 minutes. After that is the show. I'll watch it all the way up until it's time to watch TWD. I'll watch the remainder of SNL on OnDemand.

Oh, I don't want to spoil anything for you, but Tony Clifton just came on!

Well, as much as I would like to feed Chip a whole lot of disinformation about the special, I'm just curious to see what he thinks.

I'm enjoying the special enough that I'm just going to watch it all the way through. If I'm still awake, I may try to watch TWD at 2am. If not, I'll just watch it OnDemand. As for the Special, I'm pretty sure the writer of the article that I read got it wrong. This is a one night thing and not 3 weeks. The article was over at VH1. So, they dropped the ball.

Yeah, that seems unlikely.  What else could they do, really?

Betty White is f*cking awesome. Her scene with Bradley Cooper had me laughing.

You know, when this Special was first announced, I knew that all the press would be going to which former SNL comedians would be invited back. But for me, my mind went immediately to G.E. Smith. I was hoping, but not expecting that he would get an invite. So, it was cool to see that he did. But man, he looks sickly. Not sure what is going on with him. Hope it's not an illness of any kind.

Melissa McCarthy as 'Chris Farley' and Emma Stone as "Gilda Radner' left me feeling uncomfortable. I think they both did a good job in portraying their most famous characters, but it just felt so wrong. They should have just stuck with the remembrance clips, which has yet to air in my time zone.

I liked the Music segment where they brought out some of the best characters created as "Bands" on SNL. Cool to see Joe Piscopo as Frank Sinatra again. Steve Martin doing a little bit of 'King Tut' was nice. But Bill Murray singing the Theme to Jaws was the best. Kind of disappointed that the Blues Brothers didn't do Soul Man.

I tuned in to see Eddie Murphy and before he came out, I figured all he would do would be him coming out and taking a bow and that's exactly what happened. Disappointed. I wanted him to do a small stand up routine that would remind everyone why he was THE best comedian to come out of SNL. Anything. Got gypped. Sigh.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who was uncomfortable seeing the "dead actor" bit.  I mean, they did decent jobs, particularly Emma Stone, but it just felt disrespectful.  It's one thing to do it with your friends and family, it's another thing to put it on show.

I'm sure they will be ripped tomorrow morning in the news.
