Re: Superbowl 2014 Commercials

So my son simply asked why are all the companies previewing their commercials before Superbowl? Not really getting the point of his question, I answered with an article I just recently read talking about ‘generating buzz’ for the commercials.

After last night, I get what my son was saying. All the anticipation was now gone. I had seen most of them, so there was no surprise, but only a big Meh.
I think half of the viewers watch Superbowl for the ads (and halftime show) alone… like me. I was completely underwhelmed since I’ve seen the commercials before, sometimes several times. Also, they were either not good or just bizarre. So I’m thinking the idea of trying to make a commercial go viral has backfired at least for those folks who are anticipating ‘new’ commercials.
I do remember some, but not in a good way. The bud light having a 30 second commercial on their “New” twist cap. WTF, it was just images of watch splashing against the bottle… seriously WTF. There were others that were bizarre and just quickly forgotten already. This will definitely be a year of not remember much.

I think my son’s right. Go back to secrecy of the commercial until game day.
