Walking Dead Spin-off

Quote
AMC is bringing more zombies to TV! The network announced Monday that it is working with Robert Kirkman, creator of "The Walking Dead" graphic novels, and the show's executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert to do a companion series.

Charlie Collier, AMC's president, called the decision "a no-brainer" in a statement, and revealed that the show will consist of an entirely new cast of characters and will be a new story. "It's a big world and we can't wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse," he said.

The new show is expected to premiere in 2015.

"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of 'The Walking Dead' universe," Kirkman said in a statement. "The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."

"The Walking Dead," starring Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, premiered in 2010 and has since become the No. 1 TV show among viewers in the 18-49 demographic.

But long before the spin-off debuts, "The Walking Dead" will return for its fourth season. At Comic-Con this summer, the stars and producers teased that the show would "get insane very quickly" this year. Kirkman has also revealed that there will be a zombie baby of sorts, noting that the little one would be "different from the baby who was seen in 'Dawn of the Dead' remake."

Season four kicks off Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

I wouldn't object to another series, but please do NOT start spinning everyone off just so they can fill up as much time on their TV roster. I fear that this is where its heading and too much of a good thing means over-saturation and then the inevitable backlash from fans and viewers.

Ya, I'm not feeling it.

Let the awesomeness of a great show just continue to wash over.

Greed rears it's ugly head. Walking Dead, Walking Dead New York, Walking Dead LA, Walking Dead SVU.

The Walking Dead Companion Series Officially Ordered to Pilot at AMC—More Zombies for All!

Quote
The Walking Dead spinoff—sorry, "companion series"—is going to pilot at AMC. The network announced Robert Kirkman, the co-creator of the comic book series, and Dave Erickson will co-create the companion series to The Walking Dead. The new show will be set in a different location with a new cast of characters.

Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are also on board as executive producers. Erickson will serve as showrunner.

"Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world. In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it's the question I get asked the most," AMC President Charlie Collier said in a statement. "Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct. We're thrilled to be taking this next step with these remarkable partners."

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," Kirkman said in a statement.

The pilot is scheduled to go into production in late 2014. No additional details about location and casting were provided.

"I've been fortunate to have collaborated with both Robert and AMC on past projects and I'm thrilled to join them again, along with Gale and David, to build upon The Walking Dead's already epic narrative," Erickson said.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m.

I'm okay with 'Spin-offs' for TWD as long as it's just the one. If it starts to become something like Law and Order or CSI where there are a ton of spin-offs, it's going to dilute the main series. But this is AMC we are talking about. They don't care. They want to milk as much as possible while the show is still hot. So, I expect more and more to the point of over saturation. Don't be surprised if the spin-offs look cheap. This is the same company that it STILL trying to nickle and dime it's biggest money maker.

I'll be fine if the stories are completely different. I mean in every way.

When I first heard of this I thought it was very doable. I hope they do the right thing -California or Reno lol- no Governor clone. More of a origin type thing I think would work very well.

How The Walking Dead Spinoff Can Feel Different - Channel Surfing Podcast

Both Eric and Roth bring up a lot of good points regarding what the sequel should (and shouldn't be). I do worry about fatigue if it's more of the same. Also, I found it somewhat funny that they too are worrying about AMC basically trying to duplicate what CBS did with CSI. It's a concern of mine as you guys already know. I just don't want more of the same. Give us something radically different, but keep the tone consistent with the original TWD. Also, what's this sh*t I'm hearing about 4-5 competing Zombies shows? What the hell!
