Re: Walking Dead Companion Series announced (AMC)
« Reply #16 on: December 16, 2014, 11:20:49 am »
The Walking Dead's spinoff/companion series is ready to begin shooting next month! And we now know the location of where the new series, which will air on AMC, will be set. And filmed.

It's not Atlanta, where the mothership is shot, but rather...

Los Angeles!

Yes, E! News has confirmed the buzzy new series will be set in sunny California. (Do zombies wear shades? Take selfies? Only time will tell...But we're obviously already brain dead for even thinking it. They totally won't.)

AMC has no comment.

Sources also tell us that the pilot episode will feature scenes that involve a school, and a hospital...(We know, we just gave it ALL away.)

Further details about the pilot—such as its title, The Walking Dead: Los Angeles is just too easy—are being kept under wraps, but we do know three members of the cast so far. Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey have already been cast in series regular roles.

The series will feature new characters and could take place at a different time than the current season of The Walking Dead, like right after the zombie outbreak.

Robert Kirkman, the co-creator of the comic book series and executive producer on the AMC series, will executive produce the new series alongside Dave Erickson, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Erickson will serve as showrunner should the pilot go to series.

"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of The Walking Dead, and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," Kirkman said in a statement when AMC announced the pilot.

the-walking-dead-companion-series-560-1AMC today announced that it has placed an initial two-season order for a companion series to The Walking Dead, the #1 show on television among adults 18-49 for going on three seasons.

The new series (title to be announced) will be set in Los Angeles and focused on new characters and storylines. The show’s first season will consist of six one-hour episodes and premiere on AMC in late summer. The show’s second season will air in 2016.

Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert from The Walking Dead are executive producers of the new series, which, like the original, is being produced by AMC Studios. Dave Erickson (Marco Polo, Sons of Anarchy), who co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman, is an Executive Producer and Showrunner. The series will star Cliff Curtis (Missing, Gang Related), Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, Sons of Anarchy), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (Into the Storm).

“We take incredibly seriously the notion of building a satisfying companion series to the number one show on television. From the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, we’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson and their writing team, along with an incomparable set of producers, cast and crew have created something remarkable and clearly distinct. We respectfully follow the request of Monty Python as we bring out (the latest of) our Dead.”

“We feel empowered by this two-season commitment, a serious show of faith from our network partner AMC,” Kirkman said. “I personally take it as a sign that they believe, like we do, that we’ve accomplished our goal of developing something original that can pay tribute to the original show and expand the world I created while at the same time having something new to say with this story. I’m very grateful that we now have the opportunity to tell this amazing story and show the fans that we really haven’t scratched the surface yet when it comes to The Walking Dead.”

“This vote of confidence from our partners at AMC is gratifying, to say the least,” Erickson said. “We’ve been blessed with amazing writers and a stellar cast — and we can’t wait to build this apocalyptic drama over the next two seasons and hopefully beyond.”

In addition, AMC Global, the international AMC-branded television network, announced it has acquired the international television rights to the series, which it plans to air within 24 hours of the U.S. premiere. AMC Global launched in late 2014 and is available in over 115 countries and territories throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The Walking Dead Spinoff Just Got a Really Stupid Name

I don't know if this is a joke or not. But if this is in fact real, this is without a doubt the dumbest, lamest, idiotic title ever. Seriously, what the f*ck?!

Promo #1

Here's the TV Spot as seen from last nights Season Finale episode of TWD. Also, I changed the name of the thread to its official title. Sheesh, I still don't like the name they settled on.

Ya, not much that can be done. The title is cemented in.

I'm liking the idea we get to see how this all begins. Well, I hope that's where this at least touches on.

Episode 1
Pilot

The closer it got to the premiere date tonight, the more amped up I became. Not sure why that is because I've pretty much avoided all spoilers, with the exception of the Comic Con Trailer. Maybe it's having a buffer between now and TWD in October to make the wait a little less painful that made this one more appealing to me. With that, I started to build this up to an unreasonably high expectation which isn't the smartest thing to do. Happy to say that the Pilot was actually pretty good. More importantly was that I was very satisfied with how they set up the big reveal at the end. My biggest concern was that to please the TWD fans, they would just dive right into anarchy, which I think would have sucked donkey balls had they done it that way. I like getting a feel for the family dynamic and all the sh*t they are having to deal with regarding Nicky. Can't wait to see how they deal with the sh*t that happens at the end of this episode next week.

I was disappointed in the premiere of the FTWD. I wasn’t looking for an explosion of apocalyptic mayhem, but I was expecting a tad more than the 2-3 minutes of dead we got in a 90 minute premiere. I’m also not expecting Walking Dead L.A., so maybe that’s what they are doing is setting the tone for something completely different. What I don’t like are stoners and drug addicts. Making one as a lead character is sketchy in my book. I realize they did this deliberately with the family because we can see major tension and the family holding on by a thread. Thus we get no one believing Nick (Frank Dillane, who looks like Johnny Depp) because he appears like he is constantly in a drug induced state. All I can think of, he is about to go through major withdrawals or become a human popsicle.

You need to do some ‘splaining Lucy. So how did Calvin become the Walking Dead from a gun shot? Is this going back to the original series where the virus is already in people and once you die or get killed, you automatically come back dead? So the virus is airborne? Will we ever know how this all started? The Dead and the Walking Dead in the abandoned church… Ok, I might buy into the idea that Travis and his wife did not see any bodies in the church because said bodies may have turned and got up and walked. But…. If they walked, I would think they walked out and not in the basement. Where did they go sight unseen? We are talking a densely populated city.

With all the same people involved in FTWD as TWD, I’m hopeful, they have another engaging hit on their hands. We have just 5 more episodes.

Calvin was shot dead from the gunshot wound and since the same rules of TWD apply in FTWD, he comes back as a Walker. As for the virus being airborne, which was mentioned in TWD, it's anybody's guess that the writers actually stick to this. As of now, it is and the moment you perish (with brain intact), you get fitted for a nice Walker wardrobe. Yes, the virus is inside of us, but something in the air triggered it. It remains to be seen what exactly that is. I'm sure we will get some side stories happening that will explain some, if not all our questions. I'm sure Kirkman will want to keep some things secret for the time being. I understand why you wouldn't want an addict as the main character, but this serves up the ultimate redemption arc, which is something I'd like to see. It's going to offer up some interesting stories because as you already pointed out, he will be struggling with withdrawal and he's sure to be looking for his next fix amid a horde of Walkers. And I can guarantee you that this will lead to someone's untimely demise and will most likely be his wake-up call.
