Multiplayer
The addition of Classes in both
Overrun and
Survival is actually a pretty good idea, allowing you to choose exactly how you want to help your team. You can be an
Engineer, a
Medic, a
Sniper or
Supply Ammo. This is all fine and dandy, but adding these 2 types of gameplay modes came at the expense of
Horde Mode. It's Horde Mode that I absolutely loved playing in both
Gears 2 and especially in
Gears 3. The makers of the
Judgement say that
Survival is the next evolution and what is basically '
Horde' Mode in this one. Wrong. In
Horde Mode, you battle against the
Locust wave after wave, each getting more and more hectic and chaotic. The kicker is Wave 50 where they throw everything at you.
In
Survival, the maps are incredible small and you basically have to stay put and protect the e-holes/generators. You can't stray too far (wandering the map) or you risk allowing Locust to attack. The other thing with Class-based assignments, it takes out the ability to pick up weapons from downed enemies. And there in lies what I think is a fault with the new MP modes. In Horde, I can go anywhere on the map, which is huge to begin with and pick up countless weapons as needed to fend off the oncoming onslaught.
The new Modes are interesting for sure, but they absolutely won't have longevity with me. I'm already kind of over it and missing Horde Mode
big time. Unless Epic Games offers some sort of Patch of DLC that would be bring
Horde Mode specifically into
Judgement, I won't be playing this one nearly as much as I do
Gears 3. I will try and get as many Achievements in Judgement, but I will be returning to
Gears 3 soon after. I'm at a loss for words hearing about all these reviewers saying that the best thing about
Judgement is the Multiplayer. For me, it's the complete opposite.
