Gears of War 4 Special Edition Xbox One S Console Unboxing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i39EDIhGMI

So, I finally found a great deal on an Xbox One S Console a few days ago. It arrived yesterday, but I couldn't get it to log in online the traditional way. I had to download the Update Offline and transfer the files via Flashdrive. Anyway, as to why I didn't bother picking up the Original Xbox One Console, I was never going to buy that Big, Bulky Box. I knew they would eventually release a Slim, albeit 2 years after the fact. Anyway, I went for the Special Edition Bundle which includes a Redeem Code for the full game for Gears of War 4. The console looks sweet. The console design itself ties in with the theme of the GoW franchise and looks and feels amazing. Love the Controller too. This console has 2 TB of internal HD storage and thank God I got it with that much space because I nearly fell out of my chair when I activated the code for the game. It's a whopping 60+GB download. Seriously, what the f*ck! I think the biggest download I've ever had was GTA V and I do believe that was around 10GB in size. I could be wrong on the exact number, but I do know it's nowhere near what GoW is. Sheesh. It has been downloading for a couple of hours. Only half way complete. Ack! Not sure how much I will get to play tonight giving how slow its taking to download. Sigh.

So, I'm still navigating around the Dashboard/Home Screen and seeing all that is there and came across a very nice surprise. I have the option to re-download previous games that were installed on my Xbox 360. Not every game is available though. There are a few that are missing. Not sure why that is but I wanted Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on this new console. But I have about 15 other games I can install whenever I want. I won't be doing that for the time being as I'll be busy with GoW4.

Okay, been playing Gow4 for a couple of hours and it's insane. It's unrelenting and I'm totally out of my element here. It has been a long long time since I've played any Gears game and that means I have to relearn all the button combo's and all that jazz. My hands are fatigued already. The first 45 minutes or so was really good. It's the prologue to the events of everything that happens in Gears 1-3. So, it was nice to revisit that, even if it was using a different COG soldier. Now I'm onto the man story line with the new characters that will carry Gears 4 the rest of the way.

FYI, the visuals look amazing. Really blown away at how good it looks. What's really cool about owning this Console is that this is my first Blu-ray player. So, I'm looking forward to watching the lone Blu-ray movie I have and that would be Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

You know, I've been working 10+ hour days at Best Buy since Thanksgiving, in the games section... moved a lot of XBones, a TON of PS4s... but very few of those Gears Of War dealies.

I'm at the part when JD (the main character for GoW4) heads off to seek the help of his father: Marcus Fenix. I knew the character was set to return, so it wasn't a complete surprise to see him. But dammit, what a nice treat for fans of the series. That character. That image. That voice. He was sorely missed in GoW Judgement and the one thing I think really sucked about the game. Having him return here just makes everything better. Not sure if he is a playable character or not, but just having him there in the background, barking orders in that distinctive voice of his is pitch perfect.

Wooooohooooooo! Cole returns!! I was hoping that he would make a grand entrance to the game and when he does, it left me with a sh*t eating grin! F*ck yeah! Even Baird returns, though his look and style has greatly change due to how old the characters are in the timeline now. Bald and sporting a goatee. Not the look I was expecting. As for the overall game itself, this is beyond epic. I would rank GoW4 just behind Gears3 personally. Loving every minute so far.

Finished the campaign. It was f*cking awesome from start to finish. THIS is what a Gears of War game is suppose to be! So, I did this first run through on Normal mode. When I'm up for another go, I will do it on Insane Mode. Even though I f*cked up a few times during the Final Boss fight against the Hive "That" monster, it was still a much easier fight then the one we get in Gears of War 3. That one on normal takes about 20-25 minutes to complete and it's unrelenting. Your forearms fatigue, making things even more dire. Now that I know how to do the Final Boss fight for Gears of War 4, I reckon I could get it done in 10 minutes tops. I'm hoping that when I go Insane Mode, it will serve up more of a challenge. Loved the Bonus scene that comes at the end of the End Credits. I totally was not expecting that at all! Anyway, I Live Streamed 2/3 of the game on Twitch and uploaded all the videos to YouTube if anyone is interested in watching me f*ck up.

One thing I gotta point out. It hit me a couple of days back the trajectory of the series matches up perfectly with the Star Wars franchise. Gears of War 1-3 is on par with the Original Star Wars Trilogy. Gears of War Judgement is the equivalent of the Prequels (Phantom Menace, Clone Wars, Revenge Sith) and Gears 4 is equal to that of The Force Awakens. We get an entirely new cast of characters to move the story forward, but we get a helping hand from beloved characters from the Original Gears Trilogy. I can't wait to see what they have lined up for Gears 5.

Now that I'm getting use to the Windows 10 Dashboard on my Xbox One S Console and figuring out where everything is, I noticed in my Messages Inbox there was something from Xbox and inside it had a bunch of additional codes that I could redeem. I thought everything went directly to the queue and would be automatic like the 360 Games I can reinstall. In the message I had a bunch of add-on packs to redeem for Gears of War 4, as well as full installs for the other Gears games including (Gears of War 1-3 and Gears of War Judgement). So, now I have the option of selling my disc games and getting something in return. Always a bonus. Yay!
