Tomb Raider

Now THAT was a pleasant surprise. This game more than delivered for me and puts Gears Of War Judgement to shame. First off, Tomb Raider's graphics are phenomenal! Breathtaking! Gorgeous! Love the gameplay mechanics and the environment. But what made this a nice way to spend some time gaming was in how long the campaign took to complete. I don't know exactly how many hours it took to get through it, but it's definitely 4 times longer than GOWJ, which sucked as far as getting bang for you buck out of it. There is no way a AAA game like that should be charging $60 for a game that you can complete in less than 10 hours.

To me, it felt like TR was a good 15 - 20 hours. I'm sure it's far less than that, but I feel like I got my money's worth and that was on Casual Mode. I still get to replay the game on Hard which would make it even longer to complete. If there is one thing I don't like. it's the quick time events which is basically on-screen prompts for button mashing. Other than that minor quibble, I'd give this game 4 stars out of 5 easily. I'm not going to bother with MP. It looks dumb, so I won't waste my time trying it out.

Along with the campaign play for TR, there are lots of challenging puzzle's to figure out when you go cave/tomb dwelling. I'm sure most people can knock them out pretty easily, but I feel a sense of accomplishment figuring them out all on my own with no help whatsoever. I think I have maybe 2-3 Tombs left to find and solve. So, the game is still on-going for me at the moment.

Tomb Raider Art Book

I'm putting this "review" in this thread because the Art Book, as cool as it is, is very small. It's the size of a Video Game Case (DVD Case) and there's only a handful of pages. The paper stock is high quality gloss, so they didn't go the cheap way. It's just that the book comes across more of a teaser to something forthcoming. A game like this, the amount of detail and hours that went into its creation, you have to know there is a lot more art than what they have given us. This 'teaser' is good enough that I will actually seek out the coffee table size book (hopefully) that is sure to come soon if it's not already out.

Multiplayer

With the Free Gold Membership this weekend, I decided to go ahead and play a round of MP online. This is easily the worst MP I've ever played. It's beyond horrible, it's atrocious, with not thought to how to design and implement online capabilities into the game. I will NEVER waste my time playing MP for Tomb Raider. I will be sticking with campaign mode for the game from here on out. There's no need to complain about the serious lagging associated with online play. It's the game play itself that really makes it garbage.

Great episode and they were pretty much on point with everything there is within the game. Watching the episode, it makes me want to go back and play it again. They so better have a sequel to this game or I will be insanely p*ssed off at the company that said this was a "failure". Ugh. You sell over 5 million copies of the game and call it a failure? They need to go back and look up the definition of what a failed game is in this day and age.
