For me, I still think the greatest Arcade game ever is Pac-Man, just because of the phenomenon that the game brought with it. Donkey Kong was a close 2nd. I only managed to get to the Pie Factory a few times, but only got past it once. Bah!! Dragon's Lair and Space Ace were revolutionary and I spent the most time and money on those 2 games. It was a whopping 50 Cents per play!!! But the one game that I absolutely dominated on and was somewhat of a "celebrity" here with the kids was Ghost N Goblins. I found and created so many patterns for the game that had the other kids scratching their heads in how I could just obliterate any scores that were put up in the morning. Thinking back on those Saturday mornings when I would stroll into the Yellow Brick Road Arcade, the kids parting like the Red Sea as I made my way to the Ghost N Goblins Cabinet was a rush to say the least.

One quarter on that game would last me anywhere from 4-6 hours, non-stop. I would simple quit because I would never lose at all. I flipped the game 6x's on average. As for Pac-Man, the most Keys I ever got in one sitting was 24 Keys. That took about what seemed like 4 hours. Maybe it was 3. Can't remember exactly. I pretty sure it was 4 because of what time my Mom dropped me off at the Arcade. Only reason I stopped playing this particular session was because my Mom came into the arcade and dragged me off the game because it was late at night. Bah!!

KISS Pinball Machine

I forgot to mention a little game that I use to play and once tried to get my friends to help me carry it out of the arcade in broad daylight. We never really were going to steal it because we knew it was physically impossible. But boy, did we ever like to talk about doing just that. ;D Currently reading KISSTORY II which highltes all the promotional stuff the band has released over the years. If and when I ever come across a KISS Pinball Machine, I will gladly buy it.

I was mildly entertained with those early games. I played because a lot of my friends did. Peer pressure. The ones I played the most were Frogger and Space Invaders. But even more so I loved Qix and Centipede.

For those that might have forgot Qix

Space Invaders was the absolute first cabinet game I ever played. We were on a school field trip to a roller rink and off in the corner of the Cafe was this..."thing". We all went over to investigate it. It was so cool. Gimme a quarter!!!! That's was what we would be saying to each other while we waiting to play next. I went first and immediately picked it up. But the thing I remember clearly as it was yesterday was the "thump, thump, thump, weeeehooooweeeeehoooo...."

Good times.

Gorf

Gorf Arcade Game (1981 Midway Mfg.) - Overview & Gameplay

When I was in Jr. High, I went to Mission Bay Liquor every morning before school started to play this. EVERY morning for about a year. It was a pretty good game and made going to school bearable because I had something more to look forward to each day.

Scramble

Scramble Gameplay

Then along came Scramble to replace Gorf at MBL. I became OBSESSED with this game. Love, love, loved this one for the longest time. The gameplay seems to simplistic but it's very deceiving if you had a over sensitive joystick which would cause you to veer widly off path, crashing into the ground or mountains or into the line of fire. I wasn't the only kid that had to play this game. It literally was a race down to MBL to get there first because there would be too many kids waiting to get their turn. The game wasn't there for more than a few months though. Grrrr!!

Donkey Kong

Gameplay and Overview

Another obsession of course was Donkey Kong. I played this one a lot at Mr. G's Pizza. But it was kinda scary going down there to play because it was in the back of the joint near the pool tables which were usually populated by Bikers. So, I had to pick and choose when I would go when I knew the place would be "empty" of "Hell's Angels". Well, I just always assumed they were Hell's Angels.
