I DO remember this coming out and barely recall watching the first episode.

And Neumatic's description is spot on style wise.

For me, it was the classic me, trying to find time and be driven to watch it. Being on Disney did not help. I just fly by the channel.   :-\

Being on Disney did not help.

Now it makes sense as to why I've never heard anything about it. I didn't even know that the channel still existed.

It wasn't even on the regular Disney channel.  It was on the second Disney channel!  So it wasn't exactly easy to stumble upon (never underestimate the power of the stumble upon).

It was also kind of flat, there wasn't even really any humour that I saw, the characters didn't seem that dynamic, and the visual aesthetic gets old after a while.  It looked like nothing else on television, but that's not always a good thing.

I will say that Fred Tasciatore did a pretty good Jeff Bridges impression in the first episode.

Well, this was a nice little surprise. I just saw a good rating on this movie as I'm browsing Netflix and that usually means, many people like it.

A very interesting, unique story. I really like just about everything about it. Great editing, good special effects and some fun characters. Many people may roll their eyes at the story, but I was thoroughly entertained. From Stephen Summers who did a great job with updating The Mummy movies.

I highly suggest it, for a little something different.

PS: Watched this a couple of weeks ago. Just remembered I did.

47 Ronin

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8cKdDkkIYY

A Keanu Reeves project that on one hand embraced the scope and look of an epic Samurai culture, but on the other hand is too solemn and sluggish to enjoy. I remember hearing little news stories how this particular project was plagued with problems.

Regardless 47 Ronin is a gorgeous film to look at. The sets and locations do bring some emotion with the subject matter… which by the way is simply, Kai (Keanu Reeves) is a half-breed and not accepted by anyone… except the Lord’s daughter. Anyway, a ruler from another land cunningly kills the Lord, takes over and banishes the Samurai… who then technically become Ronin (Samurai without a leader). The rest of the movie is gathering up the Ronin including Kai and seek revenge and take back the palace.

There’s elements of fantasy characters sprinkled throughout. Thankfully minimally or that would have turned me off completely. Mainly because this story is based on true events.

While this looked like hundreds of other Samurai films, I was hoping for the best on a good update to the story. It just moved too slow, with little action and very little payoff. It seemed longer than it actually ran.

What you mention in your review was my biggest concern about 47 Ronin. I was marginally interested before. But if you can't get behind this, my need to rush out and get this from the Library has been put on the back burner for the time being. Sigh.

In Their Sleep

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZJe-ffOFLM

A 2013 French film that I recently read as must watch. I’ve seen less than a handful of French horror films, but each was better than the next. In Their Sleep is good… not great. I saw the twist way early, but that’s OK. The twist was not THAT critical to enjoying the flick.

It was all subtitled, which sucked, but nonetheless, a pretty good emotional thriller. The killing scenes were a little too realistic for me. And the French are known for being unforgiving. Once scene just tore me up. I had to look away. A first.

In Their Sleep reminded me a little bit of the old horror exploitation film Last House on the Left.

If you like who-done-it thrillers, you might want to pick this up sometime.

Currently on Netflix

Devil's Due

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_jtJvdzh7w

What a complete rip-off. Derivative of Paranormal Activity and Rosemary's Baby mashup. All with hand held camera! Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. We all still ask the question why with found footage, but these directors must have just got off the boat. Really, tape every wakening moment. Oh No... even sleep. Even waking up in the middle of the night sleep. WTF. This dumbass husband is a freakin idiot with the camera. Let's see, your wife becomes possessed and you continue to tape while the house is ripping apart and you get thrown against the wall? It get really cliche with a devil baby and anything church or religious. Zero scares in this movie because we've seen everything before. The characters are not even interesting.

Avoid at all costs. This should have never been found. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. Oh, now I remember. My wife fell asleep on me and I couldn't get up to change out the movie. Gahhhhhhhhhh, what a colossal waste of time.

Haven't seen it so I can't comment on it. But knowing you, there are two things that I expect to make you run away from your TV Set: Shaky cam and Found footage. It must have been a slow night if you actually made it all the way to the end of the movie.

It was. My wife fell asleep on me, then woke up and started to watch for some unknown reason. Watched most of it, then fell asleep for the last 20 minutes.

Just odd all around.

Tamara

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrskGoFl1v4

Was a brand new listing on The Movie Channel’s Splatterday (all things horror) listing. So I gave it a go. When it starts off with following a very tight butt on a teen girl walking down the school hall, you have my attention. Wellllllllllllll, besides a couple of brief sexy shots sprinkled throughout the movie, this was a colossal waste of time. Did the directors not see “I Know What You Did” or did they just blatantly rip-off the movie and hope no one noticed. I’m at a loss. You would think someone could site plagiarism.

Anyway, I didn’t care for any the characters. In fact, most of them were major AH. Including Tamara. It wasn’t suspenseful. It wasn’t scary. It just was… stupid.

About two weeks ago I rewatched Leon: The Professional for the GoIntoTheStory/Black List blog, and today they posted the review.  It was nice getting to revisit this flick with my more educated mentality and be able to dissect it.  Of course, it was real easy getting drawn into it.

I think I saw the American cut, not the European cut, so I can watch it again sooner rather than later.
