It has been a long time since I have given a perfect 5 Star rating to a new series after just one episode. A little background stuff first. I have never read a single comic based on the character, even though I've known about the Green Arrow for years and years. So I have zero knowledge about the Oliver Queen and his supporting players that make up his world. I think the creator / show runner for Arrow did a great job setting up all the characters, especially that of Oilver and his 'origin' story. They only hint at the 'Island' that he has been stranded on for the last 5 years, but this is where he changed from 'rich, snobby, trustfund baby' to a new Superhero.

I'm also glad to see that Katie Cassidy is on board for this. I have not seen her in anything (that I can remember at the moment) since Melrose Place was unceremoniously cancelled. She is always good in everything she has a hand in and sometimes she is the best thing. So, this is a big win for the series already. If I have a criticism, it would be the costume he wears. I'm sure they are staying true to the original costume, but I would think in this day and age it could be a little more updated. I don't mean to suddenly have him sporting hi-tech armor and all that. This isn't Batman (http://pennycan.createaforum.com/dvd's-blu-rays/batman-begins-(2005)/msg12915/#msg12915) afterall. But I just think it would benefit to have a costume that doesn't scream out that it's already a dated look.

Anyway, I am definitely on board with Arrow if the rest of the season and keep the same level of excitement as the Pilot exhibited. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. This twist at the end was a nice surprise. I suspected that the new 'Step-father' was behind the attempted kidnappings of Oliver.

I like Kelly Hu. Been a fan of hers for a long time. But she looks weird, bad in a White/Blond wig playing assassin China White. I get why the character and hair go hand in hand, but it still doesn't make Kelly look any less odd. I think anyone in a white wig is going to look weird. Who knows, maybe over time I will come to like it. Anyway, I'm glad she is portraying the character as it offers her a chance to reprise the role in future episodes. Now, as far as the backstory on the Island goes, they did give us a good tease at the end with the original (what I think to be anyway) Green Arrow.

Solid episode. I really liked this one as they are starting to explore more of what went down on the Island that Oliver was stuck on for 5 years. Back in present day, the villain of the week was Deadshot. I know the character. Kinda. That's why I was shocked that Green Arrow killed him. Well, in the comic book universe, that's all subjective. But I can't see anyone surviving an arrow through the eye into the brain. Good twist at the end when Oliver reveals himself to his bodyguard Diggle because he needed to save his life. I'm liking this series a lot and it's jump the front as 'must-see-TV' for me.

Even though I am new to the Green Arrow mythology, it was a foregone conclusion that Diggle would partner up with Arrow and keep his identity safe. What I didn't expect is to see Oliver arrested so soon into the series and being pegged as the 'Vigilante'. Yes, I know there is an out and someone else will probably play the part of Arrow while Oliver is in custody to punch holes in the Detective's theory as to who is the real Arrow. My money is on Diggle being that person to play the part. Duh. I really like the back-story of the Island. It's feeding me enough to want more and more.

This episode played out exactly as I said it would and it was still fun to watch. But the best thing going for this episode was of course Deathstroke's appearance on the Island to torture Oliver. The actually made him look kick ass and I look forward to seeing more of the character in future episodes, be it on the Island or in present day New York.

Kind of a detour episode where Oliver goes after bank robbers instead of CEO's. The narrative was basically to reveal how his father's little book came to reveal itself to him and also to highlight how a father can influence a son, good and bad. Even though the episode was kinda slow compared to everything that's come before, it was still an entertaining one at that.

Muse Of Fire
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i266/Chiprocks1/Star%20Ratings/HTL_04star.gif)

Muse Of Fire was more of a set up for Oliver and Helena (Jessica De Gouw) and their relationship. Helena by the way plays the Huntress, another "vigilante", much like Arrow, dishing out her own brand of justice. The episode as a whole was pretty good, even if it was pretty light on action sequence compared to what we have been getting weekly from the series. Even the two fight scenes we do get here weren't ones that you are going to remember a week from now. I think they needed to take a breather if you will and set up their relationship as they did and give the actors and the characters room to connect so that their union will have deeper meaning rather than some random hookup. I thought Jessica did a great job here. Looking forward to more from her character. Kelly Hu made a tiny cameo, returning as China White.

I think the writers dropped the ball on this one. This should have been all about Huntress and her new costume. But whatever momentum that was building up with the character, it would always get derailed with Tommy and his sob story about being being and needing a job. I've never liked the character thus far this season, but in this episode it was too much. I wouldn't object to the character being written off the show.

With the arrival of a copy-cat 'Hood' terrorizing the city and killing off people also on Oliver's list, it immediately starts you running through a list of names of who it could be. Sure, I thought of people like the Island 'Mentor', Deathstroke, Tommy. Hell, I even threw Felicity into the mix, all within minutes of his debut on screen. But ultimately I settled on Malcolm (Tommy's father) and sure enough, I was right. Pretty good episode. I still think they need to end the whole Laurel and Tommy "romance" which is becoming more and more of a thorn in the show's side. Mine too.

The other good thing about this episode was the return of the flashbacks. More shenanigans going on, on the Island. More Deathstroke.

Meh. A filler episode that focuses on Oliver contemplating retiring the Green Arrow now that he's got something to lose. It's a crisis episode that has an ending that everyone can seen coming. The "monster" in this one is a disgruntled Fireman. Yup. Eye-rolling fo sho.

Pretty big twist at the end when it's revealed that Oliver's Island mentor is in fact one of the bad guys. Well, that's what we are being led to believe as I don't know if this is a major plot in the world of the Green Arrow Comic. Anyway, it does make for great TV and nothing can be better than a twist you don't see coming. I wish they were do a whole episode on the Island rather than bits and pieces.

It was cool to see Seth Gabel pop up as The Count, the manufacturer of the new designer drug known as Vertigo. Not sure how the character is portrayed in the comic, but I did find it a bit odd in how over the top "deranged" the character was in this episode. I guess because of how subdued Seth was on Fringe, seeing him all crazy here was a bit startling. Overall, the episode was just okay. Still wish they would give us more Island stuff faster though.

I can suspend my belief for a lot of things, especially in the Superhero Genre, but there as some things that defy any kind of logic and in the case of Arrow, it has to do with Oliver remaining anonymous. I find it beyond ridiculous that both Laurel and her father, standing less than a foot away from the "Hood" in a well lit scene with only half his face covered with his hoodie can't recognize him for who he is. Lame. Anyway, I did like the ending when the Green Arrow crashes through the window to confront his Mom. That's a cliffhanger you don't normally see.

Well, it took 14 episodes, but we finally get that Back Story on the Island episode that I've been waiting for and it was pretty damn good. I like how the flashback was set up because Oliver/Arrow gets shot by his mother in their standoff from the previous episode. This leaves him bleeding out and the only one that can save him is Felicity, who delivers him to Diggle where they proceed to try and save his life. While basically knocked out on his feet, this leads us into the flashback scenes where we see an early escape attempt off the Island crash and burn, a fight between Deathstroke and Slade Wilson, as well as Yao Fei secret and why he is so reluctant to leave the Island. His daughter is being held captive.

The episode also was good on levity with probably the best tie-in into Castway, the movie when he realizes and says "I'm trapped on an Island and my only friend is named Wilson". referring to his "bonding" with Slade Wilson. Haha. Priceless. Fantastic episode and I can't wait for the next one to drop. I'm really enjoying this series. So much so that I want to check and see if my Library has any sort of compilation volume on the Green Arrow.

I forgot to mention that Slade "kills" "Deathstroke" during their fight. So I'm guessing that Slade will eventually take up the mantle and likeness of his nemesis, giving birth to the 'official' Deathstroke known in the comic book world. Since I don't follow these particular characters or have a great deal of knowledge about them, I'm in the dark of when and where the transformation takes place.

Now I say "kill" because all we see is a knife sticking out of his eye socket. In real like this is surely a kill, but in the realm of comic books, this does give them an out to come back. So, there ya have it.

Kind of a slow episode given that this was about Oliver and Diggle asking out their respective crushes. Not sure why they chose to make this a double date kind of deal other than one dared the other to ask. Anyway, this also saw the first case that the new team with Felicity working as Ops, which is actually an interesting addition. For starters, she is not intimidated by other Oliver or Diggle and will put both on notice if they cross any lines. The other cool thing about the episode was the addition of two former players from Battlestar Galatica. James Callis as the Dodger and Rekha Sharma as Claire Abbott. Not sure if either is going to be a returning character, but it was cool to see them share a scene together.

Who would have ever guessed that an episode focusing on Tommy would be so good? It's about damn time they gave him a good story because up till now, the character has been pretty much useless and one that I couldn't see having a future in the show. He was beyond boring. So, with his Father the target of an assassination plot, that leaves Green Arrow the job of saving him. Only problem is that he isn't able to stop the bullet, which leaves him on borrowed time. With time running out, Oliver has no choice but to reveal his Arrow identity to Tommy, which immediately brings him in on the secret. Now, where does the story go? It seems like that Tommy will not handle this news well and it may set him down a dark path, which I'm okay with. It will add some luster and dirt to him.

The other big twist came at the end when Laurel's mother reappears from out of nowhere to tell her that she thinks that her sister may still be alive. This is getting good! Soap Opera 101.

Even with the cool assault by the Huntress on the Safe House and ensuing fight with Arrow, the episode was just okay for me. Not sure what I was expecting with her return, but it clearly wasn't an epic return, which it should have been. Also, the flashback scenes were too short, but it did reveal or at least hint at how Oliver got off the Island. But even that seems suspect because it's clearly not 5 years into his stay. So, I expect a reversal of fortune no doubt.

Average episode that has Oliver trying to catch a vigilante that thinks he is doing the same work as Green Arrow. Actually, he is. There is no getting around the fact that both are killing the 'bad' guys. So for Ollie to get self righteous to justify what he does isn't the same thing is kind of laughable.

So, it looks like Ollie may be trying to start something up with Laurel. That's not gonna sit well with Tommy. Do you really want to mess with someone that knows your true identity? I think not.

I hope that Seth Gabel has more episodes in the future as 'Count Vertigo'. He was awesome in Fringe and I think he will be just as great in Arrow. But with him locked up in a mental institution, he won't be getting out any time soon. But one day, he will escape and that can be the time for the writers to really expand the character into something more.

The episode was pretty good, but not great.  As always, I find myself drawn more and more to what happened on the Island and Oliver's training. But the biggest twist is that by the end, he, along with Slade Wilson and Shado are captured with the help of her.....father. Yeah, it's meant to be sinister but we all know that it's part of his ruse to protect her and keep control of a situation that could get way out of control if he were not involved. The other big thing the episode has is the end of Oliver and Diggle's working relationship. How long this last is anybody's guess. As for Tommy and Laurel, I think their break up is definitely permanent.

It was great to see J. August Richards pop up on the show. I haven't seen him in hardly anything since Angel went off the air. Sadly, this was a one time gig as his character Mr. Blank was killed off. Well, this is the DC Universe, so no one really stays dead.

A solid episode that reveals more about Malcom Reynolds and Oliver's father. All of this is told in flashbacks. Sorry, no Island stuff here this time since most dealt with their stories, about Reynolds plan for the city, all leading up to when the Queen's set sail on their fateful boat trip that ends in tragedy. The big reveal is that we find out that Reynolds was the man responsible for the sinking of the boat. This episode is also pivotal in that Oliver finally learns the truth about his mother's involvement with Reynolds and the kidnapping of Walter, who himself is finally rescued, courtesy of the Green Arrow of course. Something big is brewing for the season finale and I can't wait to see what transpires. Only two more episodes left. Ack!! Loved the look on Laurel's face when she herself learns the truth about Oliver's feelings for her. Let's see how she processes this news.

They (the writers of the show) need to do an Epic episode where Oliver/Arrow tracks down the one person in Sterling City that actually doesn't know the identity of Green Arrow. Now THAT is an Emmy-worthy episode if there ever was one. This was actually a pretty solid episode that sees the demise of Yao Fei in the flashback and we get a pretty kick-ass showdown between Arrow and Malcolm that leads to him finding out who the Arrow really is. Loved Felicity doing her bit to sell as the damsel in distress as Diggle "escorts" her out of the bullding. Now THAT was hella funny!!!!

Overall, I thought the Season Finale was solid, if not perfect. For starters, I wasn't expecting any kind of destruction of the Glades. I figured that it would come down to the last few seconds before they were able to disarm the 'Earthquake Generator'. Well, they did. The twist was that there was a second one that did in fact go off, leveling what appears to be just a portion of the city. As for the showdown between Oliver and Malcolm, both in their preferred costume of choice, it was good. I was expecting to see Arrow kill Malcolm, which he does. What I didn't expect to see was Tommy being killed off. Yes, he went out a hero by saving Laurel, but I was expecting to see a last minute hail-mary that would save his life. As for the 'cliffhanger', there really wasn't one other than seeing the city in shambles. I can't wait to see where they take this in Season 2.
